Assassin's Creed II Uplay Launch *FIX*
Recently, I've noticed a LOT of people are having trouble launching Assassin's Creed II on Steam. THis is primarily because the Uplay Launcher included with AC II is *outdated*. If you are having issues with launching Assassin's Creed II (or any other game using Uplay), then tfollow these steps to update Uplay (these steps came from another user on another Thread, so i just Cited his comment here and will also provide a link to the Thread mentioned):

If you are having this problem, here is what you have to do to play your game:

1. Uninstall Uplay. This can be done from Add or Remove Programs. However, it leaves files behind which you need to delete.

2. Go into Program Files (x86) and delete the entire folder called Ubisoft

3. Restart computer. (This is important for some reason)

4. Reinstall Uplay from the Uplay webdite. Link: http://uplay.ubi.com/en-GB/about#link

5. Restart computer again.

6. Launch Assassin's Creed Revelation and wait for it to update and do whatever it does

It should work fine after that, it did for me. This aparently works for other Uplay games and issues with Uplay. Hope this helps everyone else!

Here is the original Thread where i found this fix. It came from AC Revelation's Forum Page (just scroll down a ltttle bit and you should see the post with the steps:

Hope this helps! Please comment frequently so that this post doesnt get burried under Threads complaining about the same issue.:ss13ok:

man, that's fine :) And tbh what you've posted should hopefully reduce the number of "Uplay doesn't work" posts here. Might be worth getting the attention of a moderator or anyone with privileges to pin this so we don't have to bump it ourselves.

And man, it's ok, don't have to credit me, but thanks anyway :') For future reference, you can get the permalink of a post by copying the link address of the post number (bottom right-hand corner, format "#N").

Yup, should do. Because it's a Uplay DRM problem as opposed to a problem with game-specific bugs. :)

hmmm didnt see this one... had the same "problems" with Uplay. just changed my prefs in Uplay to; Always start in Offline Mode. which fixed my issues - just finished the game.

Either way - updating Uplay sounds like a solid idea. I'll give this a try for Brotherhood.

::edit:: hmm already at the latest stable version here... :/

The only true solution is for UBISoft to stop distrusting Steam's own DRM and make UPlay optional, only needed for multiplay. Requiring multiple launchers is silly, only the launcher from the store you bought the game from should be needed.

Yeah! It worked, thanks!!!

Thankyou! This still works! And I thought I was just having troubles with Windows 10!
I have tried any of this and searched on google for hours still cant get it to work now i unstalled EVERYTHING related to ubisoft and uplay and uninstalled the game.

So now can some 1 guide me through what to do when starting from scrath to install it and get it to work?

I only had to download uplay and then it worked without removing it or restarting the computer

what OS are you using? it could just be because the old launcher crashes on Windows 8. i had a similar problem with Dead Rising 2 (back when it still had Games for Windows Live), where the installer would just stop and wouldnt load again until i went through an exact process like with AC2 and Uplay
