It's entirely personal preference, use what feels comfortable. Some people say games like this are better with a control pad but my experience is the opposite. <shrug>

I found the wall jumps up in one on the assasins tombs impossible with the KB/mouse as the camera angle kept changing the directions of teh arrow keys so swapped to a generic xbox styled controler and it was a fair bit easier.
Tho' I still find I get more accuracy using KB mouse for the usual running accross rooftops without as many accedental suicides.

For this game... controller is much easier for the fighting and for the platforming based, puzzle stuff. Especially the Timed based stuff.

Mouse and keyboard is easier for aiming with knives and guns; but makes fighting hoards and bosses a nightmare.

As for the free roaming. Controller is harder to get used to due to limited control of keyboard's run/stop, characteristics. Analog controls of gradual Run to Walk to Stop, most times, messes up your timing and takes time to get used to.

Overall, I'd say the Controller is better. Plus...the vibration feedback is nice.

100% CONTROLLER! This game has HORRIBLE keyboard support and it feels very awkward and clunky! I seriously didn't even play it for more then 10 minutes with a keyboard and mouse cause it was so bad but I plugged in a controller and it felt like a different game. This is a port keep in mind so playing with a controller is what they were intending when they made it and it shows when playing.

I-d say controller. specially an xbox 360 one. Works and feels great. Way better than a KB+ mouse.

Hello after 11 years.Became a fan of assassin's creed a month ago.From my experience playing with controller is a lot easier than with a mouse and a keyboard.

100% controller. Games mouse acceleration is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and impossible to remove. AC1 is tolerable AC2 is horrid in terms of porting.
