Assassin's Creed II "Unable to download Uplay game files"

Every Uplay game i have bought so far has had its own problems, additional hurdles i need to jump through just to start the game...

So I just bought Assassin's Creed IV and tossed ACII in with it because it was $4 at the time and Ezio is still my favorite. First I fixed the problems i was having with ACIV by getting the Uplay nonsense directly from their website (someone really needs to fix the one steam gives you already...) and then fixed the game itself by setting it to "run as admin"

Now im to ACII and everything seems to be running smoothly... until i start the game and i get this "Unable to download Uplay game files" message. Ive tried everything i can think of to combat this, reinstalling everything relevant to ACII including Uplay, setting all the run files to admin, giving Uplay all possible permissions, making it an exception in my firewall, verified game files with Steam, run uplay in offline mode (which gets me as far as the game title, as soon as i hit new game it tries to connect through the (offline mode) Uplay network)..

it always just gives me the same message.

It just "Updating Uplay.." and then "Updating Uplay" and after that "Updating Upla...." BOOM and crashlanding =\

well for me i dont need to update uplay, i downloaded the most recent version off their website (which i had to use a different computer to get for whatever reason) and installed that (which also caused my AC4 saves to be deleted...)

what this seems to be telling me is uplay is trying to download update files for AC2 but cant connect to the Uplay database or whatever, and it wont let me start the game untill it gets these probably pointless files...

why cant ubisoft just let steam handle everything? it would all be so much smoother if they did...

I just kept stubbornly relaunching, every time the bar was closer to the end on the download. Maybe it will work for you if it hasn't already

same problem here i don't know what on earth can i do to fix it i have the damn game but can't play it........

I fixed this problem by just running ubisoft as administrator and put in product key then ran the game worked just fine

Hi friend.

Fix it is very easy. Fisrt you have to uninstall the ubisoft game launcher from Control Panel. After it, go to C:/Program Files, search ubisoft's folder and delet it. Now go to https://uplay.ubi.com/ and in the right header clic on "Download Uplay PC", install the software as every software ever haha. Now launch the game, log in/up, paste the product key and that´s all folks. Hope this help you.
