Assassin's Creed II

Stuck on a plain white screen
Immediately after I get in the animus the first time I get stuck on a white screen. I can bring up the pause menu, but nothing else.
I've searched for a solution but found nothing. I keep seeing that its a frequent problem with illegal copies of the game, but I bought it during the sale just a couple days ago.
I've checked the system requirements and know that that is not the problem, and I can play Black Flag just fine.
I've reinstalled once, and verified the integrity of the game cache.
I'm not quite sure where to go from here.

There is legitmently something just wrong with AC2. I have the same problem after desmond gets in the animas....I don't understand it either. I baught mine legally as well on steam during a sale...And it makes no sense because AC1 works, ACbrotherhood works, and AC3 works for me just fine. So yes something is wrong with AC2 for a lot of people.

Well that sucks. I tried installing it on my friends computer and they got the same problem. I opened a ticket with both Steam and Ubisoft support, no response yet though.

I'm also having this issue. Dylan, I await their response eagerly.

After a few days of getting one response per night, I was finally told that AC2 wasn't supported by my OS(Windows 8.1).
I've also seen claims that the game doesn't play well with the graphics card that come included in many laptops.

Originally posted by Ubisoft Support:
This game is not supported for use on your operating system.

First, please make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for your video and sound card. Most problems are related to using outdated hardware drivers.

You may be able to run the game in compatibility mode, but the only other recommendation that we could make for you would be to install and play the game on a computer that meets the requirements listed on the bottom of the game's box.

To run the game in compatibility mode, try the steps below:

1. Navigate to the executable file(s) for the game on the hard drive.
2. Right-click on the games executable file(s) and select Properties.
3. On the Properties window, select the Compatibility tab.
4. Change the compatibility field to be the desired OS mode.
5. Click Apply, then OK.
6. Launch the game by double left-clicking the executable file.

Unfortunately, this game is not supported for use on laptops, as indicated in the minimum requirements listed on the bottom of the game's box and on our FAQ.

You can try updating the drivers for your video card with the laptop manufacturer which may resolve the problem, but we will be unable to provide further assistance with running the game on unsupported hardware configurations. The only official recommendation that we can make would be for you to install and play the game on a system that does meet all of the minimum requirements.

I have included a link to the system requirements below:

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Thanks for doing the homework, Dylan. That's kind of a bummer, but whatevs. Can't be helped, I guess.

Do you have a graphics card?

If the answer is yes go to its control panel and change the Assassin's Creed II program from GPU to integrated graphics or, like I did, high processing graphics. Experiment with this.
