Stuck on the Antonio Maffei assassination

I did all the hard work of taking out all the surrounding archers, must have climbed every tower in the town! Finally get up the tower with the scaffold round the top, where my target was and he's not there! I think he may have gone down the trapdoor in the top, but I can't get in there. I've searched all around the tower, but can't find a way in! It's still marked as target on my HUD and the map. I've even waited by the trapdoor, in case he came back out, but no show. So, anyone know what the trick is there?

I wish I could remember exactly who Antonio Maffei was, then I could help lol. There's so many assassination targets I tend to forget. Can't recall the mission.

Well Total, I put in quite a lot of info. If you don't remember the lots of towers, all the archers, and the target tower with the scaffold board platform around it's top, then I guess you must have breezed it and moved on. :)

There's towers everywhere lol. And archers everywhere too, that doesn't help haha.

Total. It's sequence 5, chapter 4, 'Town Crier' and it's Tuscany, Gimignano.

that happened to me once too, seems to be a bug, try restarting the mission

Thanks Kamenos. Good to know it's not just my copy. Not sure exactly what you mean by 'the mission'. I've already aborted the memory and tried again. I've also gone off and done another part of the same conspiritors group, come back to it, still no joy. Not entirely sure how I go about starting the entire conspiritors mission again.

Hey Axelrand, I got the same problem and cannot proceed the campaign. Could you solve this problem in the end?

Edit: I tried restarting the mission for several times and have found no maffei yet.

Well, problem solved. I hurried up to the Maffei since the mission start, didn't kill any archers but the ones on the Maffei's tower. Found him, killed him. I guess there's undisplayed time limit.

TLDR
Go straight to the target. Don't botehr yourself with climbing any other towers or killing bastardi.

I had the same problem on the PC version.
But I think I might found the reason why he's not there.
I tried several times to get to him by climbing the towers in different order and taking or not taking out archers but with he wasn't there.
But in the last reload, I was actually walking around the base of his tower when I suddendly start to hear him shouting and ranting about religion! ;-)
I was basically where the haystack is (where you land after the leap of faith from that tower).
So I think the trick is: after the mission has started, you need first to walk around the area around the tower until you trigger his talking.
Then you can climb the tower and you should find him (or at least it worked for me).

PS: you don't need to take out all the archers in the other towers. I managed to climb that one without being bothered. Of course you need to kill the 2 or 3 archers who are protecting him but still the mission can be done in a couple of minutes max.

This happens because he walks off the edge of the tower onto then wooden platform then walks off again. happened infront of me and i could have cried, if he is not there abort the mission by pressing ESC and restart.

Yes, I had the same problem, but there is a way to tell if the quest is bugged when you start it.

When you start to climb the tower, where is pointing Antonio Mattei is, you'll hear him speaking about his crap of religion and ♥♥♥♥... If this happen, HE WILL BE on the TOP TOWER (on the surrounding plataform around the most highest spot) and the Quest will be 100% succedded. And when the speech is over, he'll climb to the highest spot. Kill him and POOF, the quest is done.

However, if you got the quest, started to climb the Tower, and you don't listen to his speech, than the Quest got bugged.

Q: HOW TO FIX IT?
A: Just abandon the quest and restart it. (dont' need to Quit the Game for it). And soon as you get the Quest, go straight to the Quest's Marker and finish it.

As our friend **ytcamille** said, maybe there is Timer Limit that's not display on this mission. But, I'm not sure about it.

I didn't have any problem, but it was probably because I triggered his speech while I walked around the area in the beginning of the task. I took a good while to climb it all, cause I tried to kill all the archers, and he was still there, on the highest spot (the speech had already finished)
