Assassins Creed game with the best stealth mechanics?
I have only played AC2 and I loved it. Now Im hooked in the series and want to play another one. One of the things I liked the most was the stealth mechanics. Even though the stealth wasnt the best I enjoyed quite a bit.
Does the stealth get better in Brotherhood, Revelations, and 3? If so which one is the one that improves it better?
I feel like the notorious system in AC2 wasnt that polished. It is good to be 0% notorious in order to go from one area to another by just sprinting from one end of the map across to another. This helps a lot when you want to get all the treasure chests and all the sidequests the game offers you, but it also makes you lose immersion. I rarely blended with the crowd unless told so, sat on the bench, was punished for doing "socially unacceptable action" (climbing buildings like spiderman in front of 20 people, jumping from a 3 story building into the ground, etc ...). I mostly was killing guards from behind with my hidden blade or by jumping from above and into them. One thing that I never understood was how I never get noticed when I shot at someone from behind with my "hidden gun". The shot is pretty loud and still after I killed a guard I continue doing my stealth business as usual. I never felt the need to hide corpses that I killed either.

Like I said, the stealth was good but not great. Does it get better?

AC4 has the best "stealth" mechanics out of the AC games. It's still far from perfect, but they tried to make it a viable option at least. There's fields of vegetation that will put you into sneak mode. You're practically invisible in this moment. When hiding, you also get the ability to whistle, drawing the closest enemy to your position, allowing you to kill and hide their bodies in said vegetation. The notoriety system is almost completely scrapped. There's only stages of awareness now. You're either incognito, suspicious, or notorious. Once you've either killed all the enemy within your vicinity or eluded them, you'll go into a state of suspicion, which will gradually reduce to incognito when you stay out of sight long enough. If these mechanics doesn't sound good to you, wait untl Unity, where you'll have a dedicated stealth button that'll allow you to crouchand enter sneak mode whereever you are.

Oh, you might want to know that the stealth and notoriety mechanics have not evolved at all in the other games aside from AC3 which has a few patches of grass that you could hide in, but its used so sparingly that it might as well have not existed in the first place.
