Assassin's Creed II

Different voice language files.
So this is going to seem like an odd question but is there anywhere I can get the voice files from other languages for the game or trick the game into using that language? I'm curious about what the different dubs sound like but I'd get bored too easily just watching a playthrough in that language.

I just want to find the actual voice files in different languages, while keeping the UI and everything else in English if possible.

Voice files are located at [Your Game Folder]>Assassin's Creed II>SoundData>pc
By default the game uses 2 languages: sounds_eng.pck and sounds_ita.pck (English and Italian). To trick the game into using others, you can make back up copies of either of these 2 and then rename the desired sound file into sounds_eng or sounds_ita (depends on what in-game language you want to replace). The original file has to be either renamed into something else or deleted / transfered to a different location.

Note: The in-game main menu (Options > Spoken Language) will still show that you have English and Italian options but the actual dub will be different depending on which language file you chose to replace.

Thanks. Do you have any idea how I'd find these new sound files though? I found where the files you mentioned are located, I just need the new files to replace them with.

Every dub (French, German and Spanish) is already there. I also have Russian but I don't think this language is included in Steam version.

Are they? I only have the italian and english voices in my games folder, haven't got the other languages there?

Weird. I have a Uplay version of the game and all the dubs are there. Try changing the game language in Steam settings then. In certain games Steam has to download dubs for the game after you change the language. After that, check that folder again. If it works, then you'll have to repeat the process for every language you're interested in.

Just to warn anyone else still wondering, this doesn't work. Even if you rename the files, it will still use the old one. If you delete it, there will be no voice audio. I think it must use some kind of checksum to make sure it's using the "right" file.

It's almost as if Ubisoft tried to ruin this port, you had multiple language options back on the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 360 but in 2021 they don't even let you swap the files.

Hello OldDrunkBastard, thanks for getting in touch and sharing your experience with the language files.

There are 11 languages available for the game overall, but the languages that you will have available in-game will be determined by which region you are located in and what regional version of the game you have been given from Steam, as there are different regional versions of the game, that offer certain languages and deduct others.

In case anyone finds this in 2023+ and the only spoken language options after installation are English and Italian as I had:
Rightclick AC2 in your Steam Library -> Properties... -> Set the language to what you want. Steam will dl the according pack.

do they have the japanese dub?

Hello Quantum.exe and everyone else.

The Japanese language in Assassin's Creed II is only available for the Japanese region market.
I am moving this thread to General Discussion section as we do not provide other languages, from different regions and cannot advise you how to get them.

Hello, i played Assassins Creed 2 several times and is one of my favorite games of all time and i always disliked the spanish dub, i would prefer to have an option like in Brotherhood that gives you the freedom of choosing english voices but with subtitles in spanish and with this one that feature is not available.
There's any method you can give me so i can change something in the files of the game to keep the english voices but changing the subtitles language? That would greatly improve the experience.
