Aside from needing Ubisoft Connect to play, make the account on ubisoft.com, rather than thru the ubisoft app.
Ubisoft Connect replaced Uplay.

When you download Assassin's Creed from Steam it will download Uplay alongside the game. Uplay however is obsolete. You will need to go to the Ubisoft official website as the previous commenter suggested and make an account for yourself there. Your next step is to download Ubisoft Connect (since you wont need Uplay). Once you have Ubisoft Connect log on that and it will run. Took me some hours to work it out myself... didn't think to look up in steam forums :D
I hope you will manage and enjoy your game!

This is happening to me as well. The Uplay link should be removed, or a notice should be added to the game to prompt you to create an account in Ubisoft Connect first. Digging through forums in order to the play the game for the first time is not acceptable

Although I'm definitelly not a current happy [Ubi$oft[/i]'s customer, I also felt the need to point out that this game is nearly 2 decades old and that Ubi$oft has also stopped supporting for a while now (by shutting down its game dedicated servers)[www.ubisoft.com]. :baa:
And quite sadly similar occurs with their so called "Legacy Titles"[www.ubisoft.com] in which, most likely, you won't get even half decent support at current day and age. :steamfacepalm:

Not that Ubi$oft's Support[www.ubisoft.com] was ever great to start off too. And I'm saying that from all the times that I've left a ticket there, I've always had to find out a solution on my own or with that game's community help and every time had my tickets closed without providing me an actual solution. :steamsalty:

Somewhat unrelated side note: And here's the current 2024's list of Ubi' games soon to be left without support too[www.ubisoft.com].

I have a same problem, so after following these steps, can i uninstall the uplay software?

Definitelly yes! :winter2019happybulb:

UPlay has become a useless defunct program pretty much somewhere around 2020 when it was replaced by that current version piece of bloatware (cr)app, which is Ubi' Con[ubisoftconnect.com] (obvious pun intended around the name of the link which is the actual app's name).
Although since Ubi$oft has become, or worst is, pretty much incompetent when it comes to properly patching/updating their games to properly fix/address bugs. And Ubi$oft now also tends to insert controlled obsolescence upon their older titles, that's why they've never actually bothered to properly replace the initially bundled UPlay with thier games still being sold upon other platforms, particularly since they've had a serious hatred for Steam since around 2018-2019 or so. :baa:

If a Ubi support rep comes across this thread can they please pass on a request to remove the old Uplay install from this and other older Ubi games on Steam? The Ubisoft Connect installation file should be included instead.
