Have you reached out to Steam Support directly?
Is the error you are receiving from Steam or from Uplay?

(to be honest I thought this is the only way to contact the steam support, it's my first time I contact support because of sth.)
I have looked through Steam Support and I am also unable to see an option that would be relevant.
Have you tried reinstalling the Steam Client to see if that helps?
When you right click the mouse button on the game is there an option to view the CD key?
Can you also provide a screenshot of the error message.

There also flashes briefly the CD-key list window. I'm also on linux but that shouldn't be the problem because the game worked fine before.
my next approach would be, installing Steam on "PlayOnLinux", so steam first thinks that you are using Windows OS and Ubisoft doesnt deal with the problem communicating with a different OS. I will try that myself, and tell you if that works
I have successfully run AC2 on linux with no problems what so ever, so it has to be something gone wrong kinda recently

In order to look deeper in to this, we would also need to look into your Ubisoft accounts.
So we can do this, if you're still receiving the error message "Failed to request product key from Steam", can you please set up a case on our support site[support.ubisoft.com] and then let me know your case number here on this forum thread.

Support on the site is restricted to live chat only and the button to start the chat is greyed out. I'm currently downloading the game to see if the problem still persists
Edit: It still doesn't work
