Failed to request product key from Steam
Hey Guys

At first I was writing to Ubisoft and they told me to contact the Steam support because of this.

I bought on January 21st 2020, "Assassins Creed 2 - Deluxe Edition" on Steam for a retail price. Everything works fine, it downloads and installs the Game, but it has a Probem with the product Key. The exact Problem described as: "Failed to request product key from Steam, please try again in a few minutes.". I tried many times without results. what do I have to do to play the Game?

(I allready verified my game files integrity and restarted Steam, but no keys there, yet)

I'm Playing on a Laptop on Ubuntu 19.10 but I dont think it has something to do with my OS nor hardware. Other titles had absolute no Problem.

Have you reached out to Steam Support directly?

Is the error you are receiving from Steam or from Uplay?

Well, the Error Message said (in a steam window), that it is unable to access any Key from Steam. In the FAQ, Steam isn't dealing with such problems. Due to the FAQ, I need to "..contact the game's developer/publisher directly.." in case I have Problems with my third party product key. But there is the problem, when i choose in steam support, there is no case for my exact Problem, but anything that leads to similarities tells me to contact the third Party. As I did, Ubisoft Support told me to contact Steam Support. And here I am, confused as s**t xD
(to be honest I thought this is the only way to contact the steam support, it's my first time I contact support because of sth.)

Sorry for the late response.

I have looked through Steam Support and I am also unable to see an option that would be relevant.

Have you tried reinstalling the Steam Client to see if that helps?

When you right click the mouse button on the game is there an option to view the CD key?

Can you also provide a screenshot of the error message.

There also flashes briefly the CD-key list window. I'm also on linux but that shouldn't be the problem because the game worked fine before.

Is there any progress with this problem? The game is still unplayable, and Steam won't refund it because it's been way too long and my playtime has exceeded the 2 hour limit.
There is one Thing I didn't try yet, but planed to do. it could just be a problem with "steam requesting Ubi for a Key" -> "Ubi tries to connect to giving request", but they can't, because maybe they are only able to communicate with Windows. (Problems with huge Industries and devs)

my next approach would be, installing Steam on "PlayOnLinux", so steam first thinks that you are using Windows OS and Ubisoft doesnt deal with the problem communicating with a different OS. I will try that myself, and tell you if that works

I have successfully run AC2 on linux with no problems what so ever, so it has to be something gone wrong kinda recently

Support on the site is restricted to live chat only and the button to start the chat is greyed out. I'm currently downloading the game to see if the problem still persists

I can confirm that you are unable to submit a support ticket at this time due to the current events with Covid, however live chat is still available, I have just tested it, please try again.
