Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II

Is it okay if i start the game before finishing AC1?
Hey. I used to play AC1 on my old laptop, but i have since moved to desktop. Since the game has no cloud saves, so i would have to either transport the saves between the PC's (which means i could bring malware over to this one) or to repeat all my progress, neither of which i can be bothered to do. Can i skip the first one and just start AC2? It looks better and more interesting and actually has subtitles which is great for a non native speaker like me

My advice: finish the game; you can blast through it fairly quickly, and AC1 is a great way to get back into the swing of things... Think of it like an extended tutorial with story.

I started a playthrough from start-to-finish of the AC series (well.. only just finished Revelations, but we're moving slowly!) several years back, and I was impressed by the story and gameplay transition from AC1 to AC2 and onwards.

Story-wise it's really worth it, and I think you'll enjoy the backstory from the first to the second game too. It connects the dots, as I know some people have started with AC2 and perhaps regretted it in hindsight.

When you do progress to AC2, you'll then appreciate the huge step up it makes in terms of gameplay and scale (although the maps - unfortunately mostly unused - are seriously impressive in AC1, perhaps telling of its desire to always be a truly expansive game).

Need convincing still? Have a read through this discussion here where someone was asking the same question.

If you're really not feeling playing through from the start, although I would encourage it, but if you're not, grab yourself a 100% save file from SavesForGames[savesforgames.com], then save it to the save data path (see below if needed), and then replay the memory from where you last left off.

Save data path here (see PCGamingWIki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]):
%APPDATA%\Ubisoft\Assassin's Creed\Saved Games\
See here[www.pcgamingwiki.com] for how to navigate to "%APPDATA%", although, if you copy the direct path above, you will be taken to the correct file path in File Explorer.

If you're not feeling that even, then I'd give the game movie a watch to tie things together:

I don't see a problem starting with AC 2. The second game is the first in the Ezio trilogy, so you really are not missing anything by jumping into this game. AC 2 and Brotherhood are by far the best in the franchise. If you really want to try this game out and have only played AC 1 then I would highly recommend getting it. I had a blast playing through the Ezio trilogy and have returned to play it through again on PC just recently.

If you're lazy to replay the game then I recommend at least watching the game story on YouTube so you're caught up. But playing through it would be worth it, as you might want to remember how to play the game (AC2 handles exactly like AC1 but with few additions to gameplay) because AC2 tutorials suck.

In many cases it doesn't matter. FOr these games I'd make sure you finish #1 before going into #2. The story just goes on from one to the other. Playing #2 first will massively spoil the story and you may miss some references too.
If you don't bother yourself with side quests, finishing AC1 is a matter of less than 10 hours.
