Bad fighting instructions
Okay this game is a whole lot of fun until I have to learn fighting. I've had to google to find out that the game doesn't always give me all the instructions sometimes. I was failing at Dodge because it left out the fact that I have to be using Guard before doing the other stuff it asked for. Same for Disarm. Someone really didn't think through this.

There's literally a practice arena that teaches you this stuff by your villa as well as the buttons highlight what the actions are in the top right of your screen.

It's not the game, it's you.

I was talking about the practice fighting if you read my post properly. And NO I don't get buttons highlighted. I use a 360 controller on my PC. It tells me in words on the left what to press and uses the symbols like open hand. I know which letters represent what.

For example for Disarm it DOESN'T tell me to use Guard at all. I had to google and this is a problem for others.

For some movements, I am given all directions. For some others I am not and having to google it. I think it's just a bad port over in that one aspect is all.

Apparently you DON'T know which letterts represent what. Or you didn't pay attention to the tutorial. It sometimes shows icons that you don't understand at first. But the tutorial says EXACTLY what you need to press.
1) DODGE
HOLD (a head icon with an arrow pointing upwards) and PRESS (LEG BUTTON) to DODGE an opponent’s attack. USE (LS) to influence the direction.
2) DISARM
If UNARMED, HOLD (same head icon with an arrow) and PRESS (ARMED HAND) when hit to DISARM an enemy.

The head icon with a little arrow pointing upwards is for High Profile Button (Right Trigger) aka the Guard you mentioned. So take the time to memorize all the icons in the Controls menu.

Seriously?!? I said I didn't know I had to use GUARD first because the game didn't tell me. Everything else was on the left hand of my screen. What don't you understand?

But it told you. High Profile Button = Guard. What don't you understand?

No my Guard button is actually the right bottom trigger. And the game did NOT tell me that. And as I posted before, I found others who had this same issue of not being told to be on guard first when needing to disarm.

the game does tell you as the other guy said. Obviously your controls are different from the default, so its not the games fault. Just yours.

If you are using a 360 controller.

LB is to auto target. Right trigger held down is to block. Right trigger pressed with X at the right time will cause a counter attack.

Some enemies can’t be counter attacked. Heavy armor enemies need to be dodged by holding right trigger and then pressing A at the right time. Then immediately press X after a successful dodge.

The fighting is fairly easy in this game tbh. Combat was made a lot harder in Revelations.
