It's not the game, it's you.
I was talking about the practice fighting if you read my post properly. And NO I don't get buttons highlighted. I use a 360 controller on my PC. It tells me in words on the left what to press and uses the symbols like open hand. I know which letters represent what.
For example for Disarm it DOESN'T tell me to use Guard at all. I had to google and this is a problem for others.
For some movements, I am given all directions. For some others I am not and having to google it. I think it's just a bad port over in that one aspect is all.
1) DODGE
HOLD (a head icon with an arrow pointing upwards) and PRESS (LEG BUTTON) to DODGE an opponent’s attack. USE (LS) to influence the direction.
2) DISARM
If UNARMED, HOLD (same head icon with an arrow) and PRESS (ARMED HAND) when hit to DISARM an enemy.
The head icon with a little arrow pointing upwards is for High Profile Button (Right Trigger) aka the Guard you mentioned. So take the time to memorize all the icons in the Controls menu.
LB is to auto target. Right trigger held down is to block. Right trigger pressed with X at the right time will cause a counter attack.
Some enemies can’t be counter attacked. Heavy armor enemies need to be dodged by holding right trigger and then pressing A at the right time. Then immediately press X after a successful dodge.
The fighting is fairly easy in this game tbh. Combat was made a lot harder in Revelations.
