Assassin's Creed II

Assassin's Creed II

Worth Playing?
I'm fairly new to the AC series. I've played Black Flag, Syndicate and Origins, and liked them all. Many people seem to think that Ezio is the favorite & most memorable character though, so I'm wondering if I should play AC2. But gameplay-wise, is it taking a huge step backwards? Or does the game still hold up (without feeling like a badly done console port?)

Why did you start with Black Flag and not the original Assassin's Creed? You need to play them in order. Assassin's Creed -> AC2 -> Brotherhood -> Revelations -> AC3. The Desmond Trilogy is absolutely worth it.

I did try the original years ago after a Steam sale, and couldn't get in to it. Control scheme was terrible, didn't care for the combat, just wasn't fun for me. I ignored the series completely til Black Flag went on sale for cheap, saw the amazing reviews, saw pirates (always liked sailing ship combat games,) so I gave it a shot and loved it. I own #2 (was bundled with #1) so was wondering if I should play it, seeing how I like the recent ones but not the first.

Well, the gameplay in AC2 is exactly the same as AC1. It has some additions and new features but the core hadn't been changed until AC3 (Black Flag plays mostly the same as AC3). But still, the Assassin's Creed series is known for its story first so I highly suggest playing both AC1 and AC2. Or at least watch it on YouTube if you can't handle the controls.

AC 2 is way better in terms of gameplay and story as AC 1 but it is noticable that is it from 2009. AC Brotherhood is the high point and still holds up, you can watch a story video on Youtube of AC 2 and start with Brotherhood.

The first one is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage while this one is one of the 2 that I'd consider worth playing (along with 4).

Seriously don't bother with any of the others, they're not interesting or fun compared to those.

Only if you care about the story. If you just want gameplay, then just get whatever you want.

Playing story oriented games for gameplay...Sigh...It's like playing Mass Effect for shooting.

Not everyone is like you. I know this comes as a shock to you, but people like different things. I know, crazy.

Ah. I see you're one of those people who think "If their opinion isn't mine, then they are abnormal and weird!!"

I simply stated my view on it. If you don't agree with it, no reason for personal attacks, especially based on assumptions.

There are no assumptions here. If you were simply stating your view, a simple "I believe you shouldn't play story games for gameplay."
Instead, you added in a condescending tone.

This also applies to me.

Thanks for the feedback folks. Seems like #2 gameplay is closer to #1 than #4 so will probably pass on it, but if I wanna get caught up on the story I'll check it out on youtube.

There is no tone on the internet, mere words and sentences aren't enough to express it. What you imagined as condescendance was only a genuine incredulity and rather pathetic sadness. Call it grumpiness if you want. You know, the way some old men feel.
