Super Start?

I'm having trouble with the races on the very hard missions, so I watched some speed runs videos, to see if there were any shortcuts I missed or something.

but the main difference I found, was that they made some form of super start (like with mario kart), so that they win 2 places in the first second after start.

maybe I missed the explanation, how that works, but can please someone explain to me, how to pull these starts of? there is no acceleration button after all and boost is not activated before the first round is completed.

on my ps3 controler its 'x' (bottom action button, not d-pad) when the go appears on screen or about when the accouncer says "go"

its the A-Button on the Xbox 360 pad.
(and would be the B-button if MS would have stuck with the button names as they should be: like on the SNES!!!!!! But I digress...)

So it is the button for boosting.
