Difficult but far from impossible.
Also, using the glitch bombs and weapons on the drones can be helpful too.
I wouldn't say the final-boss is well-made either but it's definitely do-able.
Do'n Hard mode on your first try.
Why, back in my day, we didn't even have save points OR electricity.
But that didn't stop me from beating Ninja Gaiden on NES. Pshhh.
We just had to git gooder.
My strategy was:
1) Fire out a glitch bomb and glitch the orbs
2) Move under the screen and duck and shoot up (use the "lock" function)
3) When I did start to decline in health, I'd then shoot orbs until I'd get a refill of life
Repeated that until he died, which didn't take too long.

I should've wrote a Steam User Review of this game instead of ranting about it here, I guess. The game was great, but I keep telling my friends. If you wanna enjoy the Axiom Verge from start to finish; DO NOT start the game on hard difficulty. Especially for the first time.
The "green electricity gun" IS, by far, the best gun in the game.
Took me a couple tries, but, this.
