I dont know bro I recall a few metroidvanias maybe not quite as old being similar, I think echo the dolphin was allot more cryptic then others during that time. I think many devs try to compensate since so many come out with videos fast on how to find everything.
Super Metroid has the X-ray scope, too. (and very obvious environmental clue).
Speaking of, this is kind of what this game needed a bit more of. Like remember that one puzzle in Super Metroid where you see a busted glass tube, and have to figure out that you can do that too? This game kinda needed something like that, for items and secret at least.
