However, I DO feel and agree that Athetos was more than the Rusalki told Trace. In a way, the Rusalki were pushing THEIR side of the stoyr and Trace was constantly fed how Athetos is pure evil and nothing else. Especially Elsenova and I feel like she is actually up to something.
Trace was in the middle of a fight between two groups and both groups lied to him and witheld info from him.
I am slightly confused by the ending but I doubt anyone is capable of time manipulation so I do not think Trace went back in time and got another chance. It is probably another illusion created for him while the Rusalki guard his sleeping body maybe in fear he would turn into the next Athetos which is MAYBE implied by the criptic old man Athetos telling Trace to wake up.
Athetos was presumably allowed to pass through the first time without any problems...
I myself feel the Rusalki have an agenda. Elsenova acts that way a lot. Trace had zero chance to learn anything, they lied to him and nurtured him around their ideas.
"If I tell you any more, they will kill you."
(something like that)
It is clear they like the fact that Trace is happy inside his fake dream unable to do anything although......
This is a really interesting idea. If the Rusalki were behind the pathogen, perhaps Athetos originally returned to Sudra to with gifts of knowledge and technology, with the goal of ultimately moving their civilization forward again and then carrying out his mission to Earth. It would be interesting if the "pathogen" was actually a medical tool made by Athetos to help the Sudrans, only to have it corrupted by the Rusalki for their own benefit.
I don't doubt that Athetos could do evil if he felt he had to, but I don't buy for a minute that he was actually a bad person at heart. Having his original mission be peaceful would also explain why he was allowed to carry advanced technology back from whatever world he visited after he left Sudra. I'm pretty sure it was described as a utopia at least once during the game, and I can't envision people from a perfect society sanctioning mass murder.
