Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction

Micheal Ironside
Doesn't anyone else agree that Micheal Ironside MAKES sam fisher the bad ass he is? Does Ubisoft not care about how personality is portrayed through voice? You can't just put a Generic Action Hero voice on Sam Fisher and expect him to still be the same person! (For those of you who do not know, Sam's voice actor, Micheal Ironside, will not be voicing him, instead they casted the role of sams voice to sound like that main character from the uncharted series, and with it, Reworked his personality in the next game)

ITS NOT LIKE YOU TOOK 10 YEARS TO MAKE SAM WHO HE IS, JUST TO DESTROY IT NOW...did you?

Ubi, I'm sad...

What's everyones thoughts on this?

I admit that I am still halfway through Conviction (just bought recently) and have not played any other Splinter Cell games. However, I am extremely enjoying it so far and would want to play the previoius games, only now it seems a little late to start playing them. I do like Micheal Ironside's voice acting in Conviction though sometimes I find it a little too deep. I have to agree however that the new voice actor's voice is too weak for Sam Fisher.

The game director of Blacklist though said that they are incorpertating motion capture for the game characters. So maybe the new actor is more competent at physical acting then Micheal Ironside. I really don't know.

I agree with this. I don't think it would be the same without him.

It won't be the same. However, the reason for the change is a technical one. To increase realism in character movement in both body and face, they are using motion capture of live actors for many things. Ironside (unfortunately) is too old to perform these movements adequately. So, for the reasons of realism in game, they are sacrificing and voice. While I will miss his voice as much as anyone, remember that many franchises (Batman, Spider-Man, and even Doctor Who) have experienced significant evolutions in their characters. We, as a Splinter Cell fanbase can weather this, and perhaps even enjoy it. We can only hope.

I agree, Michael Ironside is Sam Fisher to me at this point, and I don't know if I can even take the game seriously without dat voice. This video pretty much sums up why he's not doing the gig anymore:

Ironside didn't like how Fisher has become more of a killing machine and it sounds like he's just as much to blame as anyone for not voicing Sam again. I agree with him. Even though I like Conviction, I think it's weird that they don't dip into the well of everything Fisher is capable of. In every video I've seen of Blacklist, Fisher is just capping fools left and right but I'm not seeing the motivation. Even in Conviction, it becomes funny just how many henchmen Fisher is up against.

There were parts in the older games that weren't all about killing. I'll always remember one mission where it was mostly about sneaking into a hotel and rapelling down a skyscraper to listen in on a conversation. I just have to hope that a new Splinter Cell can have these kinds of stealth moments while keeping all the action mechanics (mark and execute, window breaching, hostage taking) they developed for Conviction.

I totally agree, many other beloved franchises have undergone a significant change. Maybe this will be acceptable.
