How do I "wait" or advance time?

I thought I could wait by a bonfire, but I can't seem to figure it out. Can I wait out in the open? If so, how? Thanks!

Yeah but you can literally steal someone else's bed while you're out and about, so, it's not a big deal.

Yeah you need to wait to be able to pass time in bed again, it is a restriction made to stop you from exploting the waiting mechanism.

personally i dont like it its a single player game and if people enjoy cheesing it let them

If it's to wait for a quest all I've had to do is press the esc key.

Oh yeah, the cooldown is kinda funny, but I get it, they want your character to actually wear themselves out a bit before resting time away. I'd usually just end up doing some other string of quests, that is until they started breaking, but until then, I just kept busy in game.
