dlss 4.0 and 4.5
What's the difference? Which one is more merciful for hardware? I'm testing both with dlaa/quality and I can't notice any noticable difference

4.5 uses fp8 hardware which only 40xx and 50xx gpus have. So below that it's performance can really suffer. Even with the hardware my RTX 4080 can still loose up to 10% fps using 4.5L vs 4.0. And noting that 4.0 was a performance hit vs 3.0 but at like 4-6%. It looks like this.

A, B, C, D, E, F use the old CNN Convolutional Neural Network AI model
J and K use the Transformer 1 AI model
L and M use the Transformer 2 AI model

So game you can use 4.0 or 4.5 or 4.5L and looks like this;

4.0=K model
4.5=M model
4.5L=L model

So you can choose any of the 3 models for DLAA, Quality, Balanced, Performance, Ultra Performance.

If you instead override dlss in nvapp to recommended it uses the correct Models as such.

DLAA, Quality, Balanced=K model
Performance=M model
Ultra Performance=L model

Noting that changing from 4.0 to 4.5 or 4.5L has no effect in game if you override it in nvapp. M model isn't as hardware demanding as L is. If you want the highest fps you can force the old CNN model and i'd choose F myself. But i'd not do that as K looks exceptional and is worth the 4-6% performance loss.

Ray Reconstruction uses it's own scaler and looks like this.

A, B C used the old CNN model. Not selectable with newer RR dlss files as it was deprecated.
D and E use the Transformer 1 model. Game switched from D to E preset semi recently and selecting dlss overrides recommended it uses D preset. D is often the better choice for stability.

Depends on your hardware. and ironically 4.0 is more "merciful on hardware" but 4.5 has better image quality if you have the hardware to run it,
