The severs are shutting down

On 6/30/2023 11:59pm PDT the severs are being shut down ingame items and user date is not going to be saved. I feel legitimately devastated. Despite the games age and clunky mechanics, I still enjoyed this game. I will miss it. Thanks for the memories SoD.

yeah I just reinstalled today after not playing a while to see the "School of dragons will be sunsetting" message and I'm honestly really sad about it. It's a genuinely fun game despite it's quirks and I don't think I will be able to find another game that can fill the space. I mean it's one of my childhood games that I genuinely adore.

Wow... Just saw this as I was itching to play it and WTH? It is getting irksome seeing MMOs with potential only to have it abandoned. 🙄

If they're shutting down the servers, the least they could do is rewrite some of the code that removes the MMO aspect and make it co-op (perhaps over LAN), or make it single player. Or better yet, let the modders take over so they can improve the gameplay quality players didn't like and/or run it on private servers.

I did more digging and learned that JumpStart, the company itself is shutting down, the ones who have created educational websites back in about 1994, everything they created will be shutting down and not be supported anymore, this sadly includes school of dragons.

on June 13, 2023, Jumpstart has announced the closure of the company and end of support for all Jumpstart and Math Blaster games on June 30, 2023.

my guess is that the reason sod has been supported by devs for this long is because it brings revenue that barely goes over the costs of maintaining it. the mentioned lawsuit probably has been forcing jumpstart to drain all their money to put into it, and any project that has not been raking in huge sums of cash is gonna get slashed.
