Hardware Acceleration

So for some reason, it won't let me enable hardware acceleration, after some research I found this guide, I followed it and although it wasn't dealing with hardware acceleration it worked. Turns out Overriding high DPI Scaling Behavior (scaling by application) one can enable hardware acceleration even if Insaniquarium got mad at you even though your graphics card is definitely good enough for Insaniquarium.

Anyways, it worked, but there is one problem: every time I navigate away from Insaniquarium if it is in full screen and hardware acceleration is enabled it crashes and gives me a fatal error, is there a way to fix this error?

Probably not considering this game is super old and never received any updates so that it could be used with better hardware.

The hardware accel worked on my previous PC.
That was also windows 10.. Not sure why and it's not worth it..
*I'd suggest playing the game through pop cap or anywhere other then steam.
