Disney's Treasure Planet: Battle of Procyon

Disney's Treasure Planet: Battle of Procyon

Easter Eggs, References, Theories, and Other Stuff
Just some possible easter eggs, references, and other points I think I've seen in the game. Some look quite intentional, others might just be coincidences.

I'm aware some are probably incorrect or that I've probably missed some. Feel free to share any discoveries.

Beware: spoilers

  • PSR Adamantium- A selectable Procyon sloop name is named after the fictional element in the Marvel Universe: the element Wolverine's skeleton is made of.

  • RLS Admiral Pike- Could be a reference to Christopher Pike in Star Trek.

  • Heavy Scout- Is obviously a weaponized RLS Legacy (The manual does say it's based off the Discovery-class frigate, implying that's what the Legacy was). Fittingly, the names are all named after famous explorers.

  • Fast Attack- Is based off of Flint's ship, however with different sails and the weapons are mounted above-deck and not below-deck as in the movie.

  • Pirate Packet- An unplayable, unfinished pirate-converted civilian packet is docked at the refit base in Mission 6 and Convoy Raid.

  • The Jolly Roger- Captain Hook's (originally sea-going) pirate ship appears as a derelict in Mission 9 and the Shadow Dance.

  • Argentum- Argentum, fittingly, means "silver" in Latin. In a way, the Argentum slightly resembles a heavily modified Navy man-of-war.

  • 32nd Strike Flotilla- In Mission 1, you train with 3 fast frigates near Montressor. In the film, 4 fast frigates are seen flying around Montressor's spaceport.

  • Mad Dog Mecron- There is a pirate crewman with the same name as the lead designer's screen name.

  • Turnbuckle- Turnbuckle appears in Mission 1, despite his death on Treasure Planet.

  • Crew- Scroop and Hands appear as selectable crew memebers, despite their deaths in the movie. However they could probably just have the same names...

  • Jeff- ...like these guys. There are 10 selectable Arcturian crew members in the Navy. 9 of them are named Jeff. The 10th is Admiral J. Nelson. I wonder what the J stands for...

  • The Maw- In the skirmish map with the same name, you fight around the Maw black hole. In the Star Wars universe, there is a Black Hole cluster called the Maw.

  • BTL_DeadlyPirate_Full01- The pirate theme tune (heard in Moustrap) and its alterations sound extremely similar to the theme to "The Battle of Endor" from Return of the Jedi.

  • Music Spoilers- The Procyon war drums (heard in Bayles Stand) are audible in the Ironclad theme music (heard in Iron War).

  • HUD Icons- There are icons for the GUI for the civilian packet, the Argentum, and three of the lifeboats. In addition, in 640Hud_51, there are icons for two mysterious weapons.

  • Unused Crew- There are multiple unused robot, felinid, and female crew member icons.

  • Reused names- The ships in the historical maps, Mousetrap, and Convoy raid reuse names from other ships, often different types of ships. The world files, however, do call them by their unique names.

  • Ice Fist- The icon for the Procyon ice fist is, oddly, that of the tender's.

  • Procyon Frigate- The manual states the frigate's heavier weapons are on the center hull, however in-game the medium weapons are placed on the pontoons, whereas the light weapons are in the center.

  • Lambda- One of the Navy weapon barge names is typoed "Lamba"

  • Callico Jack- The name appears on the pirate galleon's selection screen twice.

  • AI- The AI will never spawn tenders, barges, or tugs. For obvious reasons.

  • RLS- In the movie, RLS is meant to stand for Robert Louis Stevenson: the writer of Treasure Island. In the game, it's given the in-universe acronym of Royal Light Ship

  • PSR Diplomacy- The PSR Diplomacy in Mission 5 is a Man-O-War. But in Mission 12 it becomes an Ice Fist

  • Wailing Wind- In the ending cutscene, the heavy plasma cannons on Evar's dreadnought act like dual heavy lancers.

  • Absense- The Procyon minelayer and the Navy assault cutter never appear in the campaign, tutorials, or historical maps.

  • Alzrand- The Alzrandian fishermen are fish themselves. And angler fish at that.

Interesting, some of these I knew but not all. Also as far as the HUD icons, I once modded those ships in the game as buyable ships. Some unused ships actually have weapon slots already and can be used properly.

Nice work! You are batting about 800 for nods, typos and oversights.

One of the big ones you missed though is RLS...At Barking Dog we gave it the meaning Royal Light Ship...but DIsney just picked those letters for Robert Louis Stephenson. the writer of treasure island. That is also who the RLS Louis is named for. ;)

Royal Light Ship, indeed, makes a whole lot more sense.

Still finding little interesting things but chances are there are quite a few that just went over my head. My new favorite is that the Alzrandian fishing town is occupied by, in irony, sentient angler fish.
Try setting the accuracy of the Dual Heavy Lancer to 100% (so they just fly straight) and make the delay between bursts 0. Then increase the amount of projectiles of the Dual Heavy Lancer to 8 and you have the projectiles of the final scene

And what you mentioned about the Procyon Frigate also applies to the Man-o-War of the Procyons

Glad others have noticed these, like the Heavy Escort and the Fast Attack ships being based of of ships from the movie! :) Excellent observations.

I remember when I heard BTL_DeadlyPirate_Full01, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Maybe that's the real reason behind why Disney bought the rights to Star Wars—now they own the music! Quite the long con. :p

I think the Navy Assault Cutter does appear in mission 12. There is one more AI Navy Fleet, fighting together with Silver and his fleet against the ironclads (eastern part of the map).
What does the Procyon PSR stand for?

Back when this game came out I found the boat files and you can make any ship playable. Some are a hoot. Also the weapons are asigned by weight so the heaviest gun being asigned to a port will let you put any gun that is smaller on that spot. Some of the iron clads have the flame gun that is registerd as smaller on one side which can be rectified. This may be why some ships are not set normally. Also If I recall for some odd reason the transport ship. The one attacked in the opening when made playable had an icon. I think that is right but those icons are only for playable ships so perhaps it was once thought to be included.

In the 3th mission there is a ship called "Ace of Spades". Maybe it's a reference for the game Ace of Spades or for the song Ace of Spades ..
