Greatest Modern Disney Movie bombed due to Marketing Sabotage
I wanna buy this game if only to further show my respects to one of the greatest Disney animations of the past 20 years.
This movie became infamous after one of the big boss guys at Disney became at odds with the team who made Treasure Planet and the boss guy purposely caused one of his own movies to bomb through bad marketing and whatnot.
Once it bombed... no one really seemed to notice this movie for nearly a decade... until Netflix rescued it.
This movie was ahead of it's time.

i was one of the few to see treasure planet in theaters. i did so because i have this thing that I have litterally seen every single version of Treasure Island ever put to film. (i even saw the 1920 version that has the legendary Lon Chaney as Blind Pew) and I will see every new version when they are made. I was sorry to see the film bomb. It is a pretty good version. and the game is a pretty good sequal if I ever saw one.

There was also a struggle at the time inside disney about moving into the young adult market...11-16 or stay ruling the kids niche. Atlantis and TP were attempts to move into the territory that was pretty firmly held by anime. The YA faction lost hard and many people who supported that agenda were let go. Years later Disney solved the problem by just buying Marvel.

Amen to that.
I loved this movie as a kid and now that i'm older,I love it even more.
I'm glad more people are starting to realise this movie exists.

Despite its wierdness and its physics defying world, the film and the game are the only science fantasy stories I like. The world they exist in is warm and nostalgic.

I don't honestly know if I wanted to have this franchise more succes. Sure, we only have a movie, a few books and the game now, but if the movie was a great succes, we might have seen the franchise going to ♥♥♥♥ in one of the direct to DVD sequels that were popular during the time. I do hope that there will be a Sequel at some point which does the Original justice, and I hope that more people will be introduced to treassure planet down the line tho.

yes the producers sabotaged the movie a lil bit because they didnt like the writers for it ( they screwed up in the past on some other movie i cannot remember but keep in mind the movie was released right after the first Harry Potter movie... they got yoinked at the box office before they had the chance to even think about a second movie, kind of a miracle this game even exists

The primary reason the marketing was sabotaged was because the writers had an agreement with their boss that if the movie wasn't a success they'd not try to make their own movie again and do as the executives at Disney instructed them too...

Treasure Planet was a passion project by two of the most successful Disney writers...

It is a shame executives are nearly always sub-human slime balls...

I just watched the movie on Disney +. It was pretty enjoyable and had a good uplifting story to tell to kids growing up. I think it deserves a sequel.
