Open source rewrite
Hi all

Just a simple thought crossing my mind: given that the game's got a number of issues which can be blocking or whose fix would be greatly appreciated, and that games such as Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 have been "opensourced" to enable the community to improve upon the base game, would such a project be interesting for AT ?

I personally am up to do it, now the more people we are the better. To make it clear, this is not to make the devs go bankrupt rather to make the game actually playable up to 2019 standards (to some extent, we still gotta remember it's been made in 1998).

What gives ?

It would be great to have this gem open sourced.. I was so glad when Blackforest picked up the ball and relaunched AT at Steam.. I hoped to see improvements and maybe even a lot of new content.. But the relaunch was not good.. Somehow the port to windows 10 / steam made the game "not-as-smooth-looking" as the old Spellbound version (I got it on cd/dvd). That along with other known glitches.

If a dedicated community could get their hands on, maybe some magic would happen.. Blackforest does not seem to put any love into it anyway.. Seems to have been an attempt on making some quick money really..

I would love to see a good fork of AT. But that's really hard work, other open-source forks of games are in development for years or decades. And if you want to take stuff from AT, then everyone need to buy the game to get the original files.
Sadly I'm not good at programming, but maybe I can help beside this.
You could open a github/gitlab project or any other site and post the link.

It seems that there's an open source fork:

{LINK REMOVED}

But I don't have any clue how to run it - it seems that there's some work in progress.....the documentation is very....small.

There hasn't been any commit for a long time, but at least there's a base to start with.

My skills go from low-level assembly up to high-level stuff but it's obviously and realistically not a one-man project.

I think it's best to pick it up from this repo and get a working replica, then start adding content or possibly rewriting it with another more up-to-date technology.

There is now active work being done on the repo, so any of you interested in helping with either code or bug testing, you're most welcome !

I have no clue how I can help but I love to test for bugs. Just let me know how :D

Partial source code for ATD can be bought from GOG, so I would imagine that basing on top of that* could be feasible.

* Without supplying those sources of course - user would have to obtain them and then eg. use diffs to patch them to conform with OpenATD.
Sounds like a great step foreward. Thanks for your hard work and skills!

I'm happy to help when I have a chance - senior software engineer here (and used to be a big fan of the game) :steamhappy:

What's going on with this? Any updates or updates people can try? Anyone managed to get multiplayer working?
