Keyboard Controls and Mapping to a Controller
I've seen a lot of people having issues with getting a controller to work with this game, but no single post has all the information consolidated in one place.
My controller (Xbox Series X) wouldn't work with this game when launching through the Epic Games Store. I very much disliked using the keyboard and mouse. So I used JoyToKey to map the keyboard to a controller.

These are the keyboard and mouse commands to be mapped:
ASDW - character control up, down, left, right - mapped to left control stick
Mouse Look - camera control - mapped to right control stick up, down, left, right
4 arrow keys - menu control up, down, left, right - mapped to D-pad
Space & Enter - jump/flap wings and menu select - mapped to button 1 (Xbox A)
E - transform to bird and interact/read - mapped to button 2 (Xbox B)
F - lantern - mapped to button 3 (Xbox X)
M - map - mapped to button 4 (Xbox Y)
Esc - toggle menu and pause - mapped to buttons 7 and 8 (Xbox Start and Select)
Shift - center camera - mapped to button 10 (Xbox right stick click)
Mouse left click - flying, bank left - mapped to button 11 (Xbox left trigger)
Mouse right click - flying, bank right - mapped to button 12 (Xbox right trigger)

For the "mouse look" on the right control stick, I put the sensitivity up to 100 with acceleration times 2.

In the past, I have successfully used the JoyToKey shareware tool to remap several different types of controllers: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and 8bitdo Pro series
I don't know about other generic controllers, but it should work on those too.

I also read one old post that said you could launch the game using a command line tool (something called Wine maybe?) that would enable the native controller support when launching the game from a command prompt. I couldn't figure that out. If someone knows about how that works, this might be a good post to talk about it.
