I already saw the discussion, but the author is more interested by the narrative aspect of the AER and so are the suggested games. I already know most of them and the ones that actually have flying mechanics seems quite lacking in their other aspects...
Both are good exploration games, but GH is mostly about climbing with bare hands. GU OTOH turns into a game of free-flying after certain ability is unlocked early on.
This game has been in early access forever but has a feeling of freedom in flight with some actually objectives. There is no ground gameplay as you are some sort of simple dragon like thing but the gameplay might scratch the same itch. There is a demo if interested in trying.
