The Mine "Chess" Puzzle

Honestly, stuck at this part for the moment, and not really sure what to do about it. There is already a thread on this puzzle, but the answer/problem is not obvious. The other puzzles and minigames leading up to this point have been pretty fair in giving some kind of hint or sign of what to do, but this just feels ridiculous and kind of unnecessary.

This area has been really unfortunate and slow, especially when you have to run all over the town talking to different NPC's multiple times. Most of the areas up to this point have at least been interesting or in some way unique, but this is just annoying and really slows the game.

Just reached the mines and not sure how to solve the puzzle I cant interact with the symbols on the wall.

The awnser is in the map on the other side of the room, decyper the wall with the map. A7.

Direct answer what to do:

Go to the top left of the board, and walk down one plate. Place a bomb on that plate.

I have already watched several videos with walkthroughs, I know the answer, but I still cannot understand what the essence of this riddle is. How exactly was I supposed to arrive at the answer? Can someone explain this puzzle to me?
