Can't Connect To Servers?
Alright, so I can load up dota or tf2 and connect fine, but it consistently says I'm unable to connect to the servers for this. I'm super bummed out cause I was excited to play too, any advice on what to do? I tried restarting steam, verifying files, all that.

Is there a way I can change my platform for a mac so that I am able to play this game through my computer?

I cannot connect to servers whilst I have NetNanny and/or K9 Content Filters installed,

Any way around this? (I want to keep the content filters on)

I redownloaded the game with my antivirus disabled and it still says it can't connect

Unfortunately if you keep the content filters on, they will continue to interfere with the game. We will look into any possible solutions on our end, there may be an update we can provide that may help.

For now though, you'll have to keep the filters turned off when you play.

@KingOfRedLions, is the game itself having trouble connecting, or are you having trouble connecting with a jackbox.tv controller?

I'm having the same issue on multiple computers, on both OSX and Windows. Disabled firewalls and antiviruses, still did not work.

I am having this issue as well. On Jan. 14, 2015 we was able to play just fine but last week and today we are having issues. We can connect to the jackbox.tv site but the game in steam is just keep saying "We're trying to phone home. Check your internet connection." I have disabled the antivirus on the computer like others suggested but I am still getting the same message. I also have the game on the firewall expception list, but still no luck. Any suggestions?

What region are you who are having trouble in? And what ISP?

Are people not talking about this anymore?
Bought this game months ago, and have NEVER been able to get it to work. Many family games nights have come and gone as I try multiple different things. Got another one tonight and still can't get it to work?

I have a Mac, I have no filters installed as far as I can tell. (Maybe X3 Watch? But that doesn't block sites.)
If I can't use this game I want my money back I guess? Is there hope for me?

Oh!
I tried uninstalling X3 Watch and it's working!

(X3 Watch doesn't block sites though?! Just record inappropriate phrases and URLs)
A lot of people can't uninstall X3 Watch like me, so worth fixing somehow! I'm sure X3 Watch would be happy to work with you on that.

What is X3 Watch? We have never heard of it. So their program was flagging jackbox.tv?

It is probably the most popular internet accountability software around - it records any inappropriate URLs and sends a report to an accountability partner. Over a million users, so it's not too obscure.
I can't say for certain - I wouldn't have thought it blocks anything - but I had to uninstall it to get this to work, and I want to reinstall it eventually.

I Stumbled upon this topic after having a issue with Ad-aware causing the "We're trying to phone home. Check your internet connection." message. Has anyone found a solution that does not involve stopping the ad-aware service?

For now I am using a work around that may be helpful to other ad-aware users,

Using this .bat file will cycle the ad-aware service and turn it OFF if it is ON and vice versa.
I run it before playing Jackbox party pack and then again when done to reactivate ad-aware.

This will work until ad-aware changes the service name to something else.
Tested on win7 64bit

Create a .bat file with the following:

@echo off
Net Stop "LavasoftAdAwareService11"
if errorlevel 1 goto Start
goto bye

:Start
Net Start "LavasoftAdAwareService11"

:bye
pause

I wonder if "Covenant Eyes" does the same thing. Disappointing, because I can play single player, but not MP.
