Are Fibbage's "truth" answers actually true?

I was watching other people play Fibbage and I'm really starting to wonder if the "truth" is actually the truth. Are they or is that a "who's a better liar? us!" kind of joke?

If they weren't true the whole game would be pointless. Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. This is the whole premise of the game.
