The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

How is the crashing?
Wondering if I should buy the legacy collection bundle with both sims 1 and 2 but I want to know how stable both games are since I see a lot of reviews talking about crashes and save corruption.

I'm genuinely surprised to hear other people having an unstable experience. Mine has easily been the most stable I have ever experienced this game running and I've been playing them all since TS1 was still new.

Please note that I don't use any cloud services that affect my documents folder (such as OneDrive). Since MS pushes it so hard, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the instabilities reported are caused by it unkowingly being enabled on some people's machines and it doing things to the vital files that live there while the game is running, while they are being constantly referenced and edited by it.

It should go without saying that if you have Onedrive enabled, you MUST turn that off for this game to function properly.

Similar question. Is it worth it ? Loved Sims 2 back in the day and had most expansions. But I'm put off by all the reports of the game regularly crashing.

Is it worth it ?

Since nobody answered I tried the game and it crashed for the first time after 75 minutes. I'll be refunding it now.

I've heard about the one drive thing. I'll probably just rebuy the game if I make a future computer us linux/steamos but I'm sure that will have other issues.

Okay but can you save? Do all neighborhoods load perfectly? with houses and everything there? have you tried playing in different hoods?
It's frustrating to see all my playtime just vanishing, not saving at all.
Mine doesn't crash, and when it does, it's a save related crash meaning only after I save the game quits.
I've played for 3.6 hours and it has crashed on me 5 or 6 times now. it's insane. Not sure how to fix it?
I bought the same bundle. The sims 1 works fine, sims 2 on the other hand, cant even save and it closes out every time I leave the lot. I think I could put up with the closing issue if I could at least save. Sims2 not with it, I still keep checking here to see if there has been any fix yet.

Good to hear that sims 1 works well. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and buy the bundle with both the sims 1 and 2. At least I'll be able to play sims 1 and I'll have access to Sims 2 when there is a fix in the future.

Yes, my game works 100% as it is supposed to (excluding the old bugs that were never fixed). Every neighbourhood saves and loads up without a problem.

I've put 1000s of hours in this game over my lifetime and these 40 something hours with this specific version have been by far the most stable experience I've ever had with it. No crashes on this new Steam version for me, ever. I can even run at up to 240hz in 4k with very few noticable performance dips, aside from when there is a lot going on in the game or when I am speeding up time.

I have not edited any ini files or modified core game files to get them to work properly, I just disabled Onedrive (had it turned off for years now), installed the game and it works.
I was having a small issue with DPI scaling preventing my resolution going up to it's full capability but it wasn't the game's fault and it was still fully playable, just blurry. I had to tick a box in windows to fix that (instructions can be found in my review if you have that problem too).
The mods I added after that are only content ones and some basic enhancements and do not affect the stability of the game whatsoever.

Not sure how I can prove it to those who probably don't believe me, but I've gone ahead and linked screenshots I just took of my current Pleasantview that I have been developing over the course of approximately 37 hours across multiple families and my Pleasant household (One of my favourite families to play) in which I have repaired the relationship between the two sisters.

As you can see, everything loaded just fine.

My experience has been good so far. One crash on boot with Sims 2 when I first launched it but since then I've had no crashes or even noitceable glitches in about ~20 hours of gameplay.
The games work fine. That said, always backup your neighborhoods. Sims 2 was a complex simulation and was never 100% crash proof. Bugs and corruption can destroy your saves even in the OG version so it's always nice to have regular backups
i played sims 2 for a while now, no crashes, no bugs yet. everything is working well
