The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

Where are the simish pop songs in the game files?
I have an old install of the pre-Steam version of The Sims 2, and I want to compare it with the newer release to see which Simlish songs are missing. Where can I find the music files in both versions?

Since the music in the game is packed in .package format, we need a program to open and extract it. There is a modding tool for The Sims 2 that allows us to access these files — SimPE. You can download it here: https://modthesims.info/d/30839/simpe-latest-version-0-75f.html

Download and install SimPE.
Navigate to the game's installation folder: C > Program Files > EA Games > The Sims 2 > [Expansion Pack Name] > TSData > Res > Sound
Look for files named "Pop.package" in each expansion pack folder. Not every expansion pack includes pop music, so this file may not always be present.

Then launch SimPE, click File > Open, browse to the "Pop.package" file and open it.

In the resource list, you'll see files named "mp3 or xa Sound File". These are the actual music tracks. Right-click on the file and select "Extract" and choose a folder to save the extracted MP3 files.

SimPE exports files with long hashed names, but you can find the original track name in the exported MP3's Properties > Details tab.

I also want to note that this method works with other radio stations, neighborhood music, build/buy mode, and CAS music, BUT voice files and SFX cannot be played just like that, these files are encoded (and that’s a whole other topic)

I'll try simply moving the music package files when the file size differ. See if that works.
