I found a solution. I deinstalled all Microsoft Visual C++ Stuff and reinstalled the most current version. Then I restarted my PC and it worked again :)

mine runs fine still and has done since 3 or 4 days after launch

Try deleting your caches. it should be under Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2 Legacy, and then there will be one or two files that say accessory cache and I think group cache (either way itll say cache at the end).
I tried doing that and the game turned on so maybe that will help.
Also I opened the game from the desktop shortcut (I don't think that really changes anything but just listing everything I did lol)

I'm having the same issue, I don't have any cache to delete because I can't even launch it. I finally just bought it today and cant even play it :(

update: I installed the latest C++ runtime versions and was able to launch.
