The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

The Sims™ 2 Legacy Collection

WE NEED STEAM CLOUD
These are games where save files and user-generated content are a huge part of the experience. Not having Steam Cloud means we either have to manually back up our saves or risk losing progress when switching devices. In a time when even much older games have cloud saving, it feels like an oversight not to include it here.

EA, if you’re reading this, please consider adding Steam Cloud support. It would make playing The Sims 2 and The Sims 1 so much more convenient for everyone.

atp id be impressed if they fixed the saves being cannibalized first since you will lose your progress no matter what cause of the new bug they caused lmao
I just use syncthing to sync it to a backup server that both my steamdeck/desktop can communicate with. I have my whole setup no matter what device I use. Just have to make sure you disable syncing the config file as that one is per device.

I dont think they are adding steam cloud if the filesize could be at least 1 gb not including mods. Get a reality grip.

I have it syncing my entire Sims 2 folder minus the config folder. So when I add new mods, neighbourhoods, sims etc.. They sync across my devices. Its nearly seamless.

Most peoples downloads folder is probably already bigger than this version of the game, ea is definitely going to be too cheap to add any kind of cloud save for us and besides that, manually backing up your cc, mods and save files has always been a part of playing this game.

Agreed. Steam Cloud is essential nowadays. Also, I don't understand why The Sims 1 and 2 don't have cloud saves while all EA-published classic games released last year on Steam have it. I hope they don't overlook this feature.

Its a file size limit steam has. Nothing to do with EA. (Sims 2 documents folder can exceed this file size limitation) They wont be able to add it. Use a cloud drive service with a folder symbolic link pointing to that directory or setup a syncthing folder sync between 2 devices.

How much gameplay needed to surpass the max filesize of steam cloud?

All depends on how much stuff you have loaded up into the game (cache files, lots, towns etc...) It can rack up fast. Especially people that use CC. I have over 7gb of CC in mine alone.

A solution could be an indication in-game telling the player about how many space is left for cloud saves. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is a game that does this, for instance.

lol it is makes no sense. i guess you have lack of clue how sims saves works. it is dynamic and even a clean startup costs more than 1 GB. if you also enter all possible locations it costs about 4 GB. and you did nothing yet just opened the neighbourhoods.

Just optimize it, its imposible that sims 1/2 save can be greater BG3 ones for example

The game is old, that will never happen. Bug fixes at most. That would require redoing a bunch of code.
