But you have dx9 installed? (asking just in case) and does your gpu support it?
dxdiag.exe will tell

perhaps try dgvoodoo , wined3d or dxwnd

I am having this issue too. This is so annoying why havent they considered this?
Same issue, still can't fix it. It makes me really mad. This should work without installing anything :steamfacepalm:
I am not the only one!

check sims 2 reddit, and google the error. one possible fix is forcing the exe file to run in windowed mode upon boot up by adding a -w at the end of the exe launch file, and more include using a widely used graphics rule fix for older versions that may also work. But if neither work ask in the sims 2 reddit and ppl will def help.

I wanted to play it so bad! I feel like I've been waiting for this in Azkaban. Checked the requirements at the game page on Steam an everything is right. Why do I have to do all this stuff with checking, reinstalling, deleting etc., when I've paid for this to start it at once? And when are they going to fix this? Just like they do it with the bugs in the Sims4, I suppose...

EA obviously didn't properly fix the sim's 2 sadly..
It is def fixable though because the abandoned ware version people have been using for year's is playable on modern pc's with mod fixes.
If you don't have the ultimate collection on EA app, this is still probably worth keeping

I feel EXACTLY the same... I was really excited, now I'm really sad. I have tried different things and nothing seems to work :steamsad:

I'll have a refund. No game, no money, dear EA. I understand it when I have to do smth to launch a game when I got it for free and you know how, but when I've paid! How they could have failed is beyond my comprehension

I fixed problem with this launch setting in steam -w -r2560x1440
After it launches just hit alt + enter to go into fullscreen mode

Commenting this with a list if your brain is as Friday fried as mine was, and you'd like a How-To.

After you've downloaded the game
1. Right click on the game in your library.
2. Click Properties
3. On the general tab, under "Launch Options" simply put in "-w" (without ""), and then try to run the game.

I didn't need to put in the resolution that others here did, but maybe you will need it for your monitor.

HAVE FUN SIMMING, WE'VE DESERVED THIS ONE <3

The fix that worked for me on The Sims 2 is below:

- Right click on Sims 2 in your Steam library
- Left click on Properties
- Under the General tab (which it should have opened on automatically), copy/paste the below under LAUNCH OPTIONS:

C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2 Legacy\EP9\TSBin\Sims2EP9.exe -w

Note: There is a gap between .exe and -w.

Then launch the game. This opens the game in a windowed mode, which allowed the game to run for me.

I hope this helps.
