I recently got into it but am kinda feeling like it's missing, a point, or some goal.
Supposedly, the older Sims games were much harder, although I don't really remember that too much from way back when I played.
Is it just a lot more focused on fancy decorations?
TS2 is the definitive experience for the traditional play style of the game. TS4 has crisper graphics (although whether they're actually better is a never ending argument) and is a more accessible game in terms of not having to micromanage things. I don't think many TS2 fans are crawling back to TS4. I also think a lot of TS4 fans probably won't enjoy some of the aspects of TS2.
Exactly this. If I want to play rags to riches, for example, I'll play TS4.
TS1 is the hardest, you really feel struggling in life and it’s more realistic in that way. There is an atmosphere and humour very different from 2.
TS4 is the smoothest and it feels more fluid with all the incremental changes from previous entries. However, the result is that the game is way too easy and thus feel a bit boring and not realistic (I mean, even at level 1 career you never struggle in life and to purchase things).
TS3 and 4 atmosphere is also kinda bland, the real weir Maxis atmosphere stopped after TS2 and Simcity 4.
I don't get why The Sims 4 fans are so scared that Sims 2 will "replace" Sims 4. It will never happen. Here is the reasons:
1- The Sims 4 is the most profitable game in the series due the high price and number of dlc. People whaled in the game, so it's very valuable. People are not going to stop playing 4 after spending so much money on it, and just play 2, not after spending 3/4 digits on it. It literally became an investment.
2- The new generation really values graphics and The Sims 4 have the best graphics of the series. Sure The Sims 2 have more animations, but that's not enough.
3- The only people who really cares about 1 and 2 are muh nostalgia ppl (me included) I don't think it will hold much attention from the new generation. And I'm only talking about The Sims 2 in this case. The Sims 1 didn't aged well and it's 100% for nostalgia ppl (and there is nothing wrong with that)
Full expansion were not better, not worse.
Base game TS4 was worse on day 1 but TS1 was just a bit better, the game felt empty with only rabbit holes
I never understood why they removed the stories ingame, there was just a text and nothing else.
They both have no soul, they are just simulators.
I played them a lot but more to kill time.
