Cant buy dogs and cats?

Hello,
I have installed the sims 1 unleashed, i see the pets walking around.
But when i wanna buy a dog or cat myself i cant go the shopping area where you can buy cats or dogs, i can see the symbol to travel but it doesnt do anything..

Help i wanna buy a cat or dog :(

Are you sure you are following the right steps?

1. Call the Old Town Shuttle to take your sim to Old Town, specifically to Pet Paradise.
2. Find the building with the dogs and cats and then click on whichever you wish to buy.
3. Customize and name your pet(s).
4. Go to the phone booth by the street and call the shuttle again to go back home.

Yeah this doesn't work for me. I can play with the cat and dog but there is no option to buy them.

so i dunno if it was your problem, but after some research, i read that if you invite anyone down to old town with you, the 'buy pet' option wont pop up. went back down by my lonesome and now i got my black cat Zumi
