I don't want to play the game badly enough to grab it from somewhere like My Abandonware, where I know it will work, but my nostalgia for The Sims 1 is through the roof and the return of these games to stores is something that should be celebrated. Take a drink every time someone says they really don't want this refund. EA didn't have to launch this without notice if it wasn't ready...
1. Set compatibility to Windows XP (SP2)
2. Download Visual C++ Redistributable (x64)
2a. Run exe for redist x64
2b. select uninstall
2c. Run exe for redist x64 again
2d. install
3. Download Visual C++ Redistributable (x86)
3a. Run exe for redist x86
3b. select uninstall
3c. Run exe for redist x86 again
