well dauntless wasn't a epic games before it was there own thing. but eventually the epic games did bought the rights to dauntless and the reason why dauntless is on steam is that phoenix labs the devs of dauntless got bought out by a crypto company. dauntless being on steam was supposed to be its attempt to relaunch the game as way to grow there audience but unfortunately since the dev studio is under the management of crypto bros the became a pay 2 win husk of its former self
Yeah you can stick a fork in this game TBH. It's over. They chased out all the legacy players and new players are not really liking the grind especially on a semi-dead server.

Yup, I went back to try it as a day 1 launch player way way back. Jesus the GRIND for weapon xp is insane now. You need 500,000 xp to max out a single weapon. You get almost 100xp per behemoth slain if it's at your level or higher. That would take killing around 3,200 enemies killed to level up a SINGLE weapon.

If I hadn't been refunded for maxing out every weapon in the game already, I'd have quit the second I did the math on that. It's like 6 months of farming (Or a full year+ if your a casual) to do ONE weapon out of like 15.

I would more say that they totaly butchered what Dauntless was and now let it´s corpse lie on the ground to rot... i mean no new info or anything anymore and that what we have received with the "awakening" update is more of a downgrade then anything else...

It´s sad for me to see as one of the original backers/founders to see what has become of this game as i did enjoy it to some degree but once the EGS shenanigans started it was noticable that the quality and essence of the core droped with each "major update" that changed core mechanics a lot.

With MH Wilds around the corner i only know i don´t need to look at this game anymore as all the fun and stuff was removed and only an empty husk remains of what Dauntless originaly was to be a somewhat "rival" to MH.

Regardless of whether your maths of how to gain xp by killing behemoths may be correct, neither in the Awakening updates nor in Reforged was it the best way to level up. In both cases it was by completing the rewards, earning Cores and getting crystals, which, even if it is random or very bad, you still go up.

And you can do that as chill by doing Escalations one after another

Reforged had just the same flow over and over again and was painfull as you always where forced to start from scratch due of the weapons power reset instead of simply keeping it so that we could continue to hunt the bigger stuff.

Awakening on the other hand makes it worse as your highest weapon lvl determines now if and how many xp you get. So if you not lvl from the start 2 weapons equaly it can easily happen that you don´t earn any xp for the lower lvled weapon just cus you use your higher lvled weapon sets the islands difficulty to "to easy".

However taking into account that we didn´t hear anything since the last dev info there is no real reason anymore to think about this game i would say and just let it rest until finally taken down... the income since this update can´t be that great anyways so that it´s only a matter of time until we get the EoS info.

I'm afraid I'll have to repeat myself. The one of the optimal option to level up is and was through rewards. In Reforged you had to equip the weapon you wanted to level up when claiming the reward to gain the experience, but in Awakening, fulfilling the rewards gives you the crystals so you can choose which weapon to distribute the XP to and also the Cores, which in turn give you more crystals. Having weapons equipped gives you experience but is still not the best option. I don't remember that in Reforged it was excessively tedious to raise the weapon level to 20 again (and even less when they added the option to accumulate XP to start at least at ¿level 5?, but in Awakening with at least one weapon raised or after having access to the escalations you can level up the rest of the weapons without even having to use them, which is what I have done to raise the rest of the weapons that I don't even use.
