Keep the legendary 'base' weapons. There was no need to have a hundred weapons in an inventory that no one used.
Re-introduce customisation options:
For each weapon, you can modify:
The Weapon Mod.
The Weapon Special.
The Lantern Ability.
These will be unlocked for old players. It is not okay that you took away options that we used to have. They can be earned through in-game currency stores (rams, silver marks) like before for new players.
Introduce the ability to customise the element.
To customise the element, you must imbue the weapon with monster parts from a monster of the corresponding element.
If you want, you could even bring back the minor buffs that specific monsters used to give, like drask giving increased damage to heads/tails.
Keep the talent trees.
However, the talents will now change depending on which special and/or mod you have equipped. As it is currently laid out, we have 2 rows of passives, one row that corresponds to the special, and one row that corresponds to the legendary ability. It would be VERY easy to simply change the row corresponding with the special depending on what we choose to use with the weapon.
Keep weapon swapping. Weapon swapping will probably just be used to switch between one elemental variant of a weapon, and another. This is okay, and would happen anyway as the builds we use (from armour and cells) will generally only work well for a single weapon type. Still leave people the option to swap between whole weapons, it could be useful for people trying to farms tails and heads at the same time, but generally speaking this is not an issue with my proposed change as it will happen anyway. You may not want people to just be using a single weapon, but it is going to happen, especially with how armour and cells work.
We can still have different legendary weapons though. The legendary ability can change depending on the weapon we choose. There is also space for new attack patterns (like with the Hunger sword), or for different weapon damage types (as with the shock 'sword' which now does crushing damage instead of slicing, and so is used for breaking horns and dealing stagger damage, instead of cutting off tails).
...
This would address most of the concerns that people have. The issue that grieves me the most is not having access to combinations of specials, lanterns and mods that I used to have, and it is made worse by the fact that we need to pay a rare currency or real money to get back what we already used to have. My suggestion would give us back our customisation options, while allowing you to keep the new things that have been brought in, which honestly are good.
I can understand buying the battle pass but having weapons locked & only able to get with weapon tokens that you can only get one weapon per pass is a bad Idea.
For the game to be successful all it needs is each weapon you should be able to just change the element, allow almost fully customisation of armour with cells, so we build how we want & fight how we want. add new monsters, new areas, new major threats that's all it needs.
Like all games buying the battle pass is fair enough & cosmetics etc but not the actual weapons we use not a happy camper.
It's a shame that you claimed that this update was created thanks to players feedback when 90% of the playerbase is displeased with it. I wanted to give Dauntless another try, the game had potential. I doubt you will be able to fix this situation quickly enough. I wish the best for the game and the team, we will see in four months where this is going.
you succeeded in killing what little playerbase you had left. i miss the first Ramsgate.
Man imagine if Monster Hunter would pull off such a move to give players only 1 weapon of each type and the rest is locked behind walls of money... The players would tear the game appart in no time but even Capcom knows what kind of bolt move this would be and so even the upcoming MHW stays to the formula of crafting.
At least we can be "happy" that we are still allowed to craft and upgrade our armors via mats and stuff... but maybe (and if the game stays alive long enough) this will be taken as well from us to give more reason to spend money if new armors are then also locked behind the seasonal pass.
Imo opinion the smith now could not exist at all and some rndm other NPC stands there who is able to "enchant our weapon so that it gets more powerfull" cus it would not make a difference anymore... what kind of smith exists who stands at his forge and tells you "I can´t craft weapons with all those materials you have but i can transform them into essence to give your weapon power to make it better"?
Not sure what the "Awakening" in this update refers to but maybe it´s relate to "wake up and stop playing this game at all"... as one of the players who did pay to be a founder i´m more then disapointed to see what this game has become over the course of years.
I mean sure the reforge update was also kinde mixed when it was released but this... this is beyond bad as a choice for an release as it just feels like a massive downgrade of the game we once played. We will see if and how long the game will still be alive before the plug must be pulled when no one is willing to spend any more dime for this game and the newly aggressive monetization.
I only played dauntless because i liked the dumb humor and the art style. Not because HEY LOOK WE GOT NEW SYSTEMS FOR THE 50th time since we released on the EGS.
Honestly, you can't recover from this much of a pit on the meta data.
You guys got it into your head this is what people wanted because you wanted a game like that.
You had rams, airships, a cool world and really fun systems. Then you did this..whatever this is. Just thanos snap it away.
We don’t have 1 free weapon for every element of every weapon, which is pretty senseless since elemental damage is a big, big part of the games mechanisms a flat increase in damage based On elemental affinity was huge part even in old Dauntless version
the way the tokens are implemented as well is an issue Sure pay walling something isn’t entirely bad but there has to be a consistent way to grind it for free for me each time we play normal escalation we should get 1 or 5 weapon tokens per Keystone behemoth defeated since they lack a purpose to be defeated now since originally it was to get their weapons and armour so now it should be every time you defeated them on normal escalation you get 1 or 3 or 5 tokens per keystone felled a free way to get those token without being weekly blocked, that not exactly totally secure because it take time to get to 100 from a random rate between 1 and 5,
The other thing is more special if you’re going to lock weapons to a certain special ability, you have to create a unique legendary ability that complements the buff that weapons give passively and as an Aether charged attack. since just switching between 1 or 2 kinds doesn’t make much sense,
Like what you did with the Phaelanx pike based on part damage a cannon balls barrage rocket down, Each weapon ability should be uniquely complimentary to the set of Ability given to the weapon, for example
Palm & bane shouldn’t be the old legendary of Agarus it should be a poison rupture which ruptures current poisons stacks in a single burst of large damage per the original Dot it would’ve done over that period of time on the part the slayer strikes or a random unbroken parts.
Now I’m not sure what would be done with other weapons I main Chain blade after all but somebody should have some really good weapon ability Idea’s you can balance around,
WHAT HELL IS THIS??? I test all weapon to see if I like or not and I choose one that I will keep using for as long as I want but no, you want me to change to another weapon I DONT LIKE just because its stronger against a monster I need to kill, what the hell??? SERIOUSLY, WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEIA???
At least armor crafting still exists. I can live with the cell changes, I got too many of them to keep track of so the simplicity of the new system is okay for me. But I know other people relied on those to modify and personalize everything to how they enjoy the game.
I can understand some of the debuffs but it was nice to feel strong and I was still out of my depths in the Blazeworks.
I was having so much fun with this game until this happened. If you're not bringing crafting back, then please at least have one weapon for each element in the weapon categories and have them reasonably unlockable. You're not getting my money just so I can get a sword to hit one specific behemoth a bit harder.
Imo reforges were fine after we were able to level up to level 20 and reforge there.
They just need to undo the update and let us keep weapon switching, the additional perk points on the armor (moving them up to +3s instead), the new exotic weapons, and weapon talents (with some adjustments ofc), then they need to not lock anything behind a paywall again and touch NOTHING else from last update (don't remove cells, don't remove exotic helmets, don't remove 90% of the weapons, let us craft weapons). This would make everyone happy and give us a BUNCH of build crafting and diversity potential.
After that they just need to make new content, without fearing a "meta" so that they can actually add things to attract new players.
Most of the monetization changes were fine, but locking the Alluring Moons behind a paywall was HORRENDOUS, don't do that again.
Ironically this update made it more likely a meta would form because of the lack of build diversity, me and my friend were unable to make our builds work from last update because of how niche they were, and since you need all six cells for any benefit... we were left you to dry unless we use a "meta" build.
Right now they are bleeding players and no new players are seeing the game because of the 15% positive reviews.
There were good things, I've mentioned them, but the previous system was outright better and more flexible. Just undo the update, give us the new stuff, and don't remove our old stuff. I don't know how many times I have to mention it, but Warframe is a golden example of how y'all should be running things.
Typically legendary weapons are cool because they feel like rewards for progressing far into the game. They're usually something special to look forward to. Making every weapon legendary from the start... feels anticlimactic.
We may be able to customize our defense vs a certain element, but it would be more engaging to have the ability to customize our offense as well. It's fun to think about what kind of elemental damage you want to deal, especially in this kind of game.
I know the developers want the players to feel like they still have control and can still customize their play-style, but unfortunately it just feels bad. I'm roughly 6 hours into the game, trying to complete the quest that unlocks the next node of the slayer tree and gives you the other 3 weapon types... But I'm just not very motivated to endure the initial grind to get there. And I don't even want a different weapon type, personally, I planned on sticking with axes... I had just assumed that there would be more than one axe to work with.
I'm not sure what the vision is with the new base weapons, if there is something special to work towards it did not stand out to me as a player. There might be a way to make this concept more intriguing for players, but this just doesn't seem to be it.
