Background not working anywhere in game

Self-explanatory. I can't see anything in the trophy room or anything that is a background, the screen is just black for anything that is not interactive.

I have the same problem. I recently found the disk and installed it onto my laptop a few days ago, and just started playing it again today. The complete lack of BG is really bothering me.

Edit: Just found a fix! In the Options menu, enable 'Windowed Mode', and then switch screens (e.g. Go back to the menu if you're currently in Classic Chuzzle, Speed Chuzzle, Zen Chuzzle, or Mind Bender, or enter a Chuzzle mode if you're in the Menu)

That works, but it disappears once I change screens when going into fullscreen. any ideas?

It has to do with the hardware acceleration not able to work properly - it will hang the game and your pc, requiring a reboot. I have to go to the profiles folder, look for the config file to change the safemode option to true to be able to keep playing. This is sad as without backgrounds the game is a pale shadow of its former self.

I know this is from a year ago but I had the same issue, I decided to mess with Hardware Acceleration, despite the post above, and it fixes it!!

For anyone who buys this game recently and has this issue, just turn on the hardware acceleration and select your screen size! It should work then!! It did in my case at least!

i tried turning the HW Acceleration but it errors and tells me i can't. Anything else to fix the background missing issue?

I've actually found simply forcing it to open windowed using launch options fixes the background issues. It'll break again if you go fullscreen tho

I know a fix! go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Chuzzle Deluxe\Profiles\config.cfg and set DX::ColorDepth=16 to DX::ColorDepth=32.

just wanted to thank you as this helped me tremendously! i couldn't use the hw acceleration option and toggling to windowed mode just to play with bg was an extra hassle i didnt need XD
