Can't seem to get it to work. Launched the first time, now it doesn't open at all. Anyone else have issues?

Follow the instructions on https://www.reddit.com/r/GirlsFrontline2/comments/1h8k56u/howto_fix_haoplay_version_crashing_for_linux_and/ but use Proton Experimental/GE instead.

Or alternatively use https://lutris.net/games/girls-frontline-2exilium/ and add a shortcut to steam, up to you. I've been playing the Haoplay non-steam version for a while now on Proton-GE.

Something stops the game from launching again on steam until you restart your device and i can't find any processes in the background. Standalone client through lutris sometimes hangs on MicrosoftEdgeUpdater.exe running in the background after quitting the game but the steam version refuses to launch even before you install edge webview and i dont see any processes related to proton, gamescope or edge running.

After couple of hours, I finally managed to do it, there is how. (Sorry about the formatting- my first post)
-First go to desktop mode and set compatibility with proton experimental for the game
-Download Protontricks from discovery store
- Open konsole to download web view 2
-Installer should be inside Home folder using your Dolphin file manager
-Go to the games folder "Right Click" -> "Properties" -> "Local files" -> "Browse local files"
- The Dolphin file manager will open now go back to "steamapps" you can navigate there by clicking path on top
- Go to "compatdata" -> "3308670"(this is game id) ->"pfx" -> "drive_c" -> and copy-paste your "WebView2Installer.exe" here
-Launch Protontricks from discovery store you downloaded earlier
-Select Girls Frontline 2 from the list and press ok (wait a while using protontricks as its working)
-Select "Select the default wineprefix" and press ok
-Select "Run a Wine cmd shell" and press ok
-Bring up the keyboard and type WebView2Installer.exe and press enter
-This will install web view 2 in your game
-After installation go again in protontricks and select option "run wine cfg"
-Menu will pop up and under applications tab search for "msedgewebview2.exe" click it and change windows version to windows 7 and press ok
-Now again in the protontricks select "change settings" and tick both "render=gdi" and "windowmanagerdecorated=n" and press ok
-Run the game in the desktop mode to log in if the game won't start press stop it from the steam menu and run again
-while on the menu screen do not press the background, instead press the third button on the left-hand side
-the black screen will appear and few seconds later the login screen

You can login now but be aware steamdeck keyboard wont show up and the whole thing is a buggy mess but you can do it (I did it by linking my account to email and copy-pasting everything) **If you are using google play to log in for some reason it's so buggy it won't show up so you need to press login by email button then go back and select google**

I hope I did not forget any step if I did, and you have problem feel free to ask

Nice that you tested this with a deck, I don't have one but it's almost a 1 to 1 copy from my Linux guide on reddit/lutris/protondb, though you made that a bit more complicated by trying to install a newer webview version and having to use a terminal for it, you can also use the uninstaller in protontricks.

Does 'windowmanagerdecorated=n' not break the game when you use FSR? I noticed that behaviour on my own machine when using gamescope.

I am not by any means an expert I just shared my steps in hope this might help someone, I agree that this is a lot more complicated and you are pobably more knowledgeable than I am.
How does FSR with 'windowmanagerdecorated=n' break your game? I did check and it seems normal. I can test further if you have any questions.
Hey so I tried following the guide, and all seemed well, until I reached the point where I had to log in. Then the game froze, I stopped it, and it never managed to launch again.
I decided I would start from scratch with a new install, but guess what : I can't even uninstall the game from my deck. It keeps throwing the error "connection timeout" or something.
Honestly tiring, I'll just download the standalone client, and if that doesn't work either, I'll stay on mobile.

A real shame because I love the game and the series, but they really fumbled the technical aspects, including the multi publisher/server thing.

I'm just hoping this will be fixed and become playable on the deck in the future (one can dream).

I hope they will fix this because darkwinter version works out of the box, only haoplay uses web view2. Can I have a little bit of more information, I might be able to help you out if I can. What is happening when you press the button on the left hand side to log-in? does anything appear at all for example black screen? Also if the game is not launching in my case what fixed this was either run the game and stop it from steam menu or restart your steam deck.
I finallymanaged to uninstall it, will try with a fresh install and keep you updated
ALRIGHT, so I finally managed to get this working.

Basically I followed reniel's guide almost 100%, BUT I ended up having to use a different installer for the WebView2 thing (I got this one[github.com]).

Also, I didn't realise that aaaall of the protontricks stuff needed to happen BEFORE downloading/installing the game (after launching it via Steam).

So in terms of steps :
- I downloaded the game via Steam storepage, didn't launch it yet
- Downloaded the webview exe on the side
- launched proton tricks, did all the steps
- only then did I launch the game from my library (in gaming mode), it downloaded the 36 gigs, and I got to log in without any issues.

Although yes it does appear that sometimes the game will just not launch, so I guess the gacha begins before even playing?
And being patient paid off, sometimes stuff took a little bit of time to work, even though it seemed like it froze.

I hope my feedback will be useful for the few brave souls who will try to play on the Deck!

This worked. Thank you Turbo & Reniel for both your advice! Working great for me now with a google login.

so basically you are saying in order for it to work the game must be uninstalled first when you did not install photontricks and webview before? Would really like to avoid that because downloading the 35 GB took me almost two days thanks to my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ internet connection atm
