Use Darkwinter as it opens sooner and is mica themselves

Darkwinter version releases 2 days earlier (3/12) and is handled by the devs themselves.
This steam version here is published by Haoplay which means you probably live in EU so you either need to download the Darkwinter PC client OR get the Darkwinter steam version (don't ask how).

GF 1 server in china closed because of a conflict between devs and their local publisher sooo better be safe than sad.

prob will do since the most stupid thing is this needs a google or facebook 3rd party acc it seems and even if not i wouldnt b able to use my acc that i use since GFL

You can probably add the Darkwinter on steam with the command line. I'll try it when they launch it

The big question is if I can pay in the Darkwinter version if I'm from a HAO play region. In GFL 1 Global I could just use Google (which probably wont work in GFL 2), neither will Steam because of the region lock. Since I don't own a credit card, paypal is my last hope to not go full F2P, I guess.

since its probably not a stteam version you use but its then own client it should probably work since why shouldnt it with paypal or something like this i mean the main reason i dont want this version is A multi publisher is dumb and B it seems to need FB or Google acc and i used neither of those two for any GFL game b4 and would pref to stay on the same overall account

your safe bet is on haoplay because japan and south korea is included in that region pool which means long longevity compared to darkwinter

I think people give too much credit to JP and KR. If something bad happens JP players will just leave as they dont like to complain while protest trucks from Korea can't reach China. Japan and Korea will have their own subservers so community might not be so lively for EU and the rest if you play on HaoPlay. Darkwinter prepared an IRL even in New York, from Hao side there will be a steam for JP in 4th and nothing announced for the rest.

100 % agreed since usually 90 % + of whales are from these two countries (the vast majority from japan alone). and even if other servers from that publisher are less populated, i kinda doubt that they'll shut down specific servers unless there are some very severe issues.

Is it just different publishers and differences in accessibility (like some countries can or can't use one version or the other?) or is there more to it like the lack of / involvement of censorship or differences in monetisation, translation, etc.?

Yuzhong is promised that there will be no diffirence in the game between two publishers. You can treat is as one game client except there is no option to enter an American server.

But yeah it's true. This ♥♥♥♥ is already confusing and annoying af, so ppl jumping into quick conclusions which leads to even more confusion in general.

Well. There already is 4 Differences.
First the Haoplay Version Launches 2 Days Later.
Second the Haoplay Website is not Showing the Pre Registration Reward Progress.
Third the Haoplay Website has no Option for Redeeming Codes.
Fourth the Haoplay Website has no News Section. The other Website actually has a History of Notices and News to Check. Including the Events. While Haoplay doesnt seem to have anything regarding that.


So Right now the Claim that there would be no Differences is already pretty Questionable.

Hoping so. Kinda don't want it to be the case where one side is getting special treatment and the other is kinda just...There?

Definitely a pain in the ass though? I'm in the EU so what version should I be getting since GF2 is doing this server split for whatever reason?
