You can pause the dialogs by pressing space. Not really the way the devs intend for it to be played, but it's a solution. Myself, I can understand where you're coming from regarding the timer too. Though my issue was more along of the lines of finding the cursor hard to find as it disappears when you're not in control. Only had the timer run out once though.
Right Arrow ---> is D
Up Arrow ^ is W
Down Arrow v is S
If a random letter pops up on screen, you must button-mash it until the bar around it fills up
What does "button-mash" mean?
Repeatedly hit the same button until an action happens.
So for example, this game often makes you button mash "Q" during combat situations when you need to do something that requries strength, like throw an attacker off you or wrestle a sword away from them. Literally all you have to do is hammer "Q" until you're successful. Watch out, though, because the game usually makes you follow up button-mashing "Q" by making you hit the "E" key immediately afterward to finish the "combo."
