well the score is good but look at the front page. full of thumbs down. it's just weird. love the game and can't wait for the voice over patch

By default, reviews are ordered based on how helpful people found the review/how much feedback it got, and how recent said review was. Since it was in a Humble Bundle a while ago, a bunch of people who essentially picked up the game for a "practically free" price have played it, and they're not too interested in it. Can't say I disagree with them (and I was a guy who was actively interested in the game originally), but anyway, that's just how Steam orders stuff.

I posted a lengthy, detailed review immediately after beating it recently and had it marked as "unhelpful" by several people for reasons best known unto themselves. Perhaps I didn't put enough asinine memes and sarcastic 11/10s in my review.

If that is happening to others as well, that probably doesn't help the situation!

Yeah, it just looks like a lot of people "thumbed up" negative reviews and "thumbed down" all the positive ones. I guess the Bundle explanation is good.

It's all culture war stuff - they don't like the "politics" of the game :O

Most reviews had been raging about the SJW themes, and most actual reviews of the plot were rated down. Mine was spared, probably becuase no one has seen it, and most reviews were made by accounts that got the game through keys, so the Humble Bundle idea is definitely the reason why.

Wow this is amazing, i don't even know were to start. I never so it as SJW type stuff. I mean 90% of cyberpunk is all about crossgender/cross species stuff. It's a piece of the fun of the genre.

Well, you know how it is with some people.

"Whaaaaaaat? A game about accepting and respecting others who are radically different?! With a diverse cast of characters ranging from straight to gay to black to white to bunny to trans to handicapped?!! PRAUPAGAHNDAAAAA!"

It's like certain people like being closed-minded jerks and resent being told that everyone deserves basic respect even if they're different.

...That and the game got a fresh batch of hate once "known sassjaydabballu shills" Jim Sterling (wait, he's considered an "SJW" now? What?), and Zoe Quinn were announced as voice actors. That probably lit a fire under certain people's butts.

Honestly, the only thing about the game I found iffy was how touchy the fox lawyer lady got about me making the dumb assumption she was Wildcat. "Alright, my bad, I'm sorry...Whoa hey I said I'm sorry! Stop hammering me over the head with it, I made an oops, that happens, again, sorry! Augh!"

I don't recall seeing/reading any cyberpunk that has "crossgender" characters or themes (besides this one, obviously). Could you provide some examples?

If you think that is bad, go check Revolution 60's Steam page. From the very moment the game became available, it got immediately vandalised.

Some people do have legitimate complaints about the story structure and focus or the interface as well. Its a bit disengenuous to make blanket dismissive statements like that.
Watched parts of a playthrough and read a sample of the negative reviews.

In the interest of fairness a lot of the reviews seem to take issue with the execution of the game's message more than the "politics" itself. Namely, one can try and be as nice as possible given the available choices but will still be treated as a bigot in need of correction. No one likes being a walking strawman argument, esepecially when they're trying really hard to embrace the positives in the game's message.

I find it's mostly just the fox lawyer (I forget her name, it's been a while) who does that. That's legit the only part of the story that I felt was uncool. :s Everyone else was pretty reasonable.

Like, I don't mind if I make an oops and get corrected and go "Oh, gotcha, so sorry, won't happen again". She was a character whose side I was completely on and would have enjoyed helping with her cause, but... :s

I mean, by the end of the game we patched that up, but still, sheesh.

This is a good point, but at the same time, considering how upset some people get when people use the wrong pronouns purely mistakenly/assume someone online is male/similar, it's also not that surprising, in a way? IDK, I've never really gotten that. Don't get mad, just correct them and move on. By all means if it's someone being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ then call them out on it, but seriously, people make mistakes and have ideas drilled into them from a young age e.g. someone wearing a dress is probably female and thus female pronouns should be used, or indeed someone with boobs is probably female. I can understand the annoyance at having assumptions made about you, but at the same time, some people just don't realize that others can make honest mistakes like that and mean absolutely no harm by it. I consider myself somewhere along the non-binary spectrum (I usually say genderfluid), but I make it a point to tell people that unless you're with me in person and I'm presenting as one gender or the other, I don't care what pronouns they use for me at all, because honestly, it's a difference of 1-4 letters.

But then I'm also one of those people who couldn't care less if someone called me a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or something to my face. Like, whatever *shrug* words are just words, and honestly, someone going after an actual insecurity I have with entirely "clean" words would affect me more than someone just using generic "explicit" insults.
