Grandia Xtreme and 3 were actualy harder then most of the boss of this hardmode for me so far...
No. The stupidity of the statement "true hard mode" is the dumb part. Just because you said "it's easy" doesn't mean it's not a true hard mode.
What ?!? never heard about that... are you sure ? I remember in Grandia Xtreme ennemies were scaling when you beat a section of the game (in like 3-4 phase). But i'm pretty sure enenmies didn't scale in any grandia game...
^^ you're right that was dump, they could create another harder difficulty to truly test the limit of this battle system...
Still I must say the Eye of Valmar was the most difficult one for me yet. Claws, Tongue and Horn were super easy.
Hard Mode should decrease the drop rate of Seeds and make the exp curve a bit higher. I never trained actually. I just ran through the fields getting loot and then went straight to the goal everytime. I got tons of MP reg Items and can spam spells without the need of fearing death since Tio currently one hits everything for me which isn't a boss and if I encounter one Mareg just face tanks it while Elena heals him and Ryudo deals with him.
Got a savefile directly infront of Melfice if anyone wants to give it a shot. Gonna stream the fight in a few minutes on twitch too.
Other than that though, it wasn't particularly difficult. Still easily clear most of the games standard fights by simply double explosion chant + int + any mp cost reduction you have + boom, and replace boom with ba-boom/crackling later on once they have too much hp for boom to kill them.
Bosses only get easier in the late game due to your aoe skills being so ridiculously poweful, at least moves + explosion spells cause they don't get resisted. Either you get to sds + white apocalypse + ba-boom every round for 4k+ each if you have Elena, or if you have Millenia the boss never gets a turn.
If there was a way for them to include a couple of optional dungeons with superbosses like grandia 1, and make them immune to spellbinding eye with enough hp that aoe spam doesn't wreck them in 3-4 turns, that'd be super fun.
So? As easy as it was before, the only difference being that he has more HP and uses his skills more frequently.
The Achievement is only limited to doing damage to him. The rest of the group can still heal and cast buffs & debuffs.
The hardest achievement for me will be the 100 potions. Currently inside the body of Valmar, still at 0 potions. Guess I'll have to drink a lot near the end to get it...
Else it's not any harder, easy enough to one shot all the packs of regular mobs on hard, just need to skill accordingly.
I could see a hard mode where enemies never respawn, so no farming possible, and if the cones shared their replenishing capacities this would become interesting. Like, 50 uses in the entire run and not a single one more. Or something. (I have broken down my run by saving more or less at each cone, the last one is cone 66 so 50 uses are not enough. Which is the entire point.)
Mid-game some of the common encounters became ridiculous though and needed to be toned down as some of their combinations were harder to beat than even the bosses if not downright impossible.
