It shouldn't have to do Grandia 1 justice. It's not tied to the same world like the Lunars & Legend of Heroes games.
The gameplay is a lot improved and the game isn't as easy as the first game.
It's very unfortunate the series creator Takeshi Miyaji ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi_Miyaji ) died after Grandia II, the sequels Xtreme and Crandia III are not even close in quality of the writing to the first 2 games he made.
The story doesn't beat the first grandia obviously, but still is in the same vibe.
The music is also composed by Noriyuki Iwadare and is effing amazing.
So, yes, it does live up to Grandia 1, go play it please.
But note that Grandia 3 is crap. Don't ever talk about this one anymore.
Seriously, I bought a PS2 back when it came out, biggest mistake ever.
It's still a decent sized game, you'll get a good 50+ hours out of it.
More like 60%. Looking at the How Long to Play DB. The times for Grandia where 44 - 75 hours. For Grandia 2 32-41 hours. Definetelly smaller though. Still 35 hours of enjoyment for $15 is a good deal.
Both are masterpieces and legendary games.
