It would be more appropriate to say Mareg chooses Ryoudo, rather than Ryoudo choosing Mareg. Mareg is much stronger than Ryoudo, and he likes it rough!
Okay, I kid. Ryoudo is totally tsundere for Skye. I choose #TeamSkye
Eloped with it to some random hill, using the excuse that he had something "left to do". It clearly didn't work out though, seeing as he buried it underneath a tree.
On my first playthrough 15 years ago, I was definitely a Millenia kinda guy. She was always wanting to be with him and dedicate her life to him whereas Elena wouldn't do that. That's why it hit me so hard when Millenia "died" being reborn as Valmar. I was gutted at the time lol.
On subsequent playthroughs though I've found myself more drawn to Elena, her purity is the sort of thing that Ryudo needs to keep pushing forward. It's essentially a relationship where they need each other. Millenia is strong enough in mind and body to get by on her own where I feel Elena would actually need Ryudo more.
Just my opinion as I know the ending shows that both of them are getting on fine without him, but in the year leading up to that point, that's the impression I'd think would be the case.
Pretty much this. Just look at this situation:
- Millenia teaches kids
- Elena travels around in a troupe
- Ryudo also seems to be traveling
Ryudo's not the type to settle down, he'll keep traveling for the rest of his life. He's the type to drop by out of nowhere to give some lovin' and then high-tail it out of there (at most staying for a few weeks). I suppose at some point he may knock at least one of them up.
Just on the mere basis that Millenia didn't get much screen time, and doesn't actually have much a reason to love Ryoudo. She barely even interacts with him, until very late in the game. If anything, she was closer to Roan than to Ryoudo, and the whole loving Ryoudo thing doesn't make much sense.
Appearence 1: They fight at church
Appearence 2: She appears and assaults Ryoudo, then for some inexplicable reason suddenly they work together to save Roan? (What?)
Appearence 3: Pops out of Mouth of Valmar for a boss fight, then disappears again.
Appearence 4: Taunts Elena when your ship is broken.
Appearence 5: Joins you for a dungeon and opens a portal to Aira, then acts mean to Ryoudo after he's upset with Aira' death. What an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Appearence 6: Appears at the Cathedral to say "omg time is short" but again, no real interaction.
Appearence 7: Messes up your date with Elena and forces her way onto you. That makes me really not like Millenia, since she interrupted a good romance scene.
Appearence 8: Pops up for no reason(?) to do the factory dungeon and absorb the Claw of Valmar at the end.
Appearence 9: Moans how much she loves Ryoudo and tries to save him after the Horn of Valmar incident, despite not really having any important interactions with him prior.
Appearence 10: Bullies Elena, and acts like a crazy, obsessed yandere to Ryoudo, who has to pretend he loves her in order to prevent her from getting violent.
Appearence 11: Serves as nothing more than a vehicle to enter the Body of Valmar
Appearence 12: The MOON scene! Suddenly she loves Ryoudo so much that she sacrifices herself for him?
Appearence 13: Final boss stuff....
Compare with all the character developments and interactions with Elena, and you can't help but not like Millenia as much. Hell, she only has 1 eating scene I could recall, while Elena had literally every other eating scene in the game.
Millenia was handled really poorly in writing, and the worst offender is that when she appeared, no one actually questioned her presence much. Ryoudo and pals were just escorting a demon around, without even attempting to pry her about her motives, and that is the biggest issue of logic in this story.
