Grandia II Hard Type Mod (1.5.5)
UPDATE: The link for the mod was removed by Steam for some reason. I'm going to post this over on the GameFAQs Grandia II Anniversary Edition board so look there for the new download link.

The Hard Type mod for the old PC version has been re-made and updated for the new Anniversary Edition of Grandia II.

Changes include tougher enemies and rebalanced moves/magic/items. Generally harder than the Hard Mode that comes with the game.

(Edit: Updated to 1.5.5)


There may be a need to create patches in the future if there are problems hopefully not.

Awesome, I'll give it a shot once I finish my hard mode playthrough.

A changelog or a website or something would be nice.

A changelog is in the works. It will just amalgamate the changes from all versions since many previous changes were actually reverted in this one.

Enemies

Enemy/Boss stats improved (HP,defense,damage,resistances)
Additional effects added to some enemy attacks

Moves/Spells

Special moves no longer gain power per level
All characters start with 50 SP and no longer gain SP per level
All damage formulas for moves/magic redone
Flying Tenseiken -3 Defense level
Nightmare Ball 50% sleep down from 90
Arrow Shot additional effect: 20% poison
Heel Crush -1 Attack/Defense/Action (lost -Move)
Spellbinding Eye effect changed to 15% random status
Golden Hammer additional effect: 10% confusion
Ice Prison -1 Action level
Lion's Roar +2 Attack level up from 1
Spell Mp increased for some spells
Alhealer effectiveness down
Wow +3 Attack level up from 2
Cold -1 Action down from -2
Freeze replaced with Curse (20% plague)
Zap All 10% paralysis down from 15
Howlnado 20% confusion down from 30
Snooze 40% sleep down from 70
Craze 35% confusion down from 70
Shhh! 50% magic block down from 70
Fiora 50% move block down from 70
Spell descriptions changed to include % chance of status

Skillbooks

Chants replaced with other skills (6x Intelligence, 4x Mentality, 2x Strength)
Life Up +25-400 Hp down from +50-800
Speed +5-25 AGI down from +10-50
Decoy replaced with +5-25 VIT/MEN

Items

Many pieces of equipment have new/different/rebalanced effects
Heavy armor without effects defense up
All-target healing items effectiveness down
Attack items effectiveness down
-Move and -Action removed from attack items
Offensive spells removed from weapons

I disagree with a bunch of these changes, but this is labeled as mod and not as rebalance anyway, so whatever. You go girl.

This looks like a great rebalancing mod to me, the game definitely needs one. I think I'll give it a shot, though I have to ask will all the changes be noted in game, such as "Arrow Shot additional effect: 20% poison". It'd be annoying if I had to flip back and forth here to see the changes.

After unpackaging all the files, do I start my game by selecting Normal or Hard mode?

It should replace Normal mode.

As for the changes being noted they are but maybe not in perfect detail. Like Arrow Shot says its poisonous but it doesn't have the %. I'll consider updating that to be more precise.

While you're at it, can you do an overhaul about skill descriptions to Include their chances to proc their effect?

Also item (mainly equipment) descriptions to include their effects, preferebly put in brackets?


Or tell me how I do that myself. Programs needed, files to datamine from, files with the descriptions. Would be greatly appreciated.

Nice Balanced sorry about my english cauz i'm KR user :)


Now i'm playing special stage - Raul Hills 1, and my gameover rate is

2 times at Valmar's Eye, 1 time at Claw, 4 times at Melfice, 3 Times at Body

2 times at Egg Guardian, i'll guess 5~10 times battle need at when i meet Valmar's Core :(



Overall, All boss battle was far more difficult than other hard mode

All Valmar's IP is "VERY FAST" than character.

And all character's magic / move skill damage is reduced by 40~50%, also

healing skill too, this change makes boss battle needs a variable strategy.

Regular enemies at the start have been kind of dangerous, the starting unfleeable combat with bird enemies and their debuff almost killed me.. : )

I tried this mod and i am now after you free roan and kill the boss there... This mod is quite good... That's what i would expect from a hard mode! the built in hard mode is still to easy. Although the difficulty in the beginning of this mod is a little to high, it gets easier as you acquire more members for your party. i like it :)
this mod adds a lot more tactical depth to the game. enemys have new abilities and passive effects which make them real enemys, not the exp trash farm you had in classic grandia 2. you need to prepare for fights and you will need a lot of healing and a few other useful items. :D

Yay, i finally beat this mode at yesterday. nice :)

Final Boss's IP was... SO FAAAAAST! Try your best in the final battle

Because of the changes below, SP moves other then interupts are not worth leveling.
The dmg doesnt scale with stars and you have a static SP, why bother then? Since all the AoE you need can be found in spells and single target dps from STR books + combo attacks.
I understand that static SP can be a good thing, but not inc power of AoE SP attacks is a waste of 1200+ SC for each star.

*All characters start with 50 SP and no longer gain SP per level

Suggestion: Either more ways of regening SP ( more from combo on weps or whatever) or add more effects/dmg with stars to match the insane SC early/mid game.
