I think theyre referring to "Amarillo's Desktop Pets" which seems like desktop mate but with more animations + customization from what the trailer shows but the game not out yet
makes sense a niche genre like this would attract competitors, and with the blood in the water this product is looking pretty easy to surpass.
The only thing that desktop mate have unique its that the model sits in the border of the programs, digital mate doesn't have that
The real unique problem with digital mate it's that everything it's manual (set dances, alarms, what interactions you want when you do something specific, etc..), but if you have time to set the model what to do then I recommend digital mate
Also it can run without steam but if you want to add something new like dances or another model, you need to start it with steam for the wotkshop
