-How many media files are you trying to import at once? If it's quite a few, try importing just one or two to see if the problem might be related to how much media you're adding at once.
-If the problem persists with even just one or two media files, try performing a clean boot according to {LINK REMOVED}these instructions from Microsoft (the Windows 8/8.1 instructions also apply to Windows 10). Does the problem persist after a clean boot?
Here's 2 screenshots that show CPU/RAM activity when running this program, both taken after the peaks were built, I imported only 3 x 5 minute clips of gameplay footage.
The first shows high CPU and medium RAM usage when playing the file.

The second shows similarly high CPU usage and increased RAM usage when not playing the file but randomly moving the marker from frame to frame.

If I pause the player and then attempt to move the marker to a different frame, in order to show that frame in preview it lags pretty badly, as soon as I start using a different application however, in this case windows snipping tool CPU activity flatlines again although RAM usage stays at around 5.5 GB, also no other programs were running during this test.
